UM Single Review: Tyler Keating- “Won’t Let You Go”

Tyler Keating- “Won’t Let You Go” Record Label: N/A Release Date: January 6, 2015 Reviewed By: Eric Petruzzo Ontario’s Tyler Keating has made a splash into the music scene with his debut studio-recording “Won’t Let You Go”. An upbeat dance anthem, the song is electro-infused pop with an infectious beat and energy. With Keating’s bright vocals and youthful spirit, the track sounds as if it could be on the top 20 hits tomorrow. Keating began writing music in high school, where he also formed a background in musical theatre. His musical history has definitely helped to shape his sound with dramatic drops and strong melodic lines in “Won’t Let You Go”. As the song progresses, however, it becomes a bit repetitive with lyrics that don’t express much. In addition, Keating’s voice has an earnest and young quality,reminiscent of Justin Bieber. During the final chorus, Keating ends the song on a positive note with some riffs over the melody that break up the repetition.

While Keating has an ear for the current pop-dance music scene, “Won’t Let You Go” is a let down in terms of producing challenging music. In his debut single, Keating fails to separate himself from other artists creating similar easy-to-digest feel good music. Although there is nothing wrong with a simple and upbeat track, it could make it difficult for Keating to establish a sold fan base when his sound lacks identifiable originality.

The future is still very much uncertain for this young musician, but his first track begs for imagination. I remain hopeful, however, that future releases will help us to discover who Tyler Keating is and if he belongs on our playlists. As for now, I’m left unsure.

Tyler Keating Releases Debut Single “Won’t Let You Go”

Toronto native, Tyler Keating has released is debut single as a solo artist titled “Won’t Let You Go,” an infectious dance-pop anthem. No stranger to the music industry, Keating has written original music and performed in venues such as Canada’s Wonderland and the Canadian National Exhibition as a Semi­ Finalist of the CNE’s Rising Star Competition.
