History
“Better bruised than dead.”
Biography:
Tyler’s always had a somewhat tumultuous life. Even given the “privileged” title that most people tended to slap him with when they found out where he was born and how he grew up. For the majority of his childhood, Tyler’s dad was the District Attorney for SPD and surrounding departments. But he, being a man solely driven by his need for power and control, continuously jockeyed for a shot at becoming mayor with further sights on securing the seat as governor.
Robert had no problem using what little influence he had at the time to lobby for more, often bribing people for their votes or proceeds. Tyler’s mom, for most of his childhood, was not only his dads secretary, but his third mistress. In fact, the fact that she got pregnant with Tyler and could scientifically prove (multiple times) that Tyler was Robert’s son was the only reason they even got married in the first place.
By the time he was twelve years old, his father had finally succeeded in becoming the mayor of Sacramento and had Jackie appointed as the assistant district attorney. Neither of his parents wanted kids, so needless to say neither of them were too happy about the pregnancy. Both Robert and Jackie took their frustrations with each other out on their son, one to more of an extreme than the other.
Robert always had some reason or another to be pissed, and when he was upset he drank. Hell, he drank on every day that ended with ‘y’, and to make matters worse, he was an angry (often violent) drunk. More often not Tyler took the bulk of his anger. Early on, Tyler learned not only how to cover up the varying shades of bruises, but how to lie his way around explaining them. He was a just a kindergartner after all, kids were clumsy at his age. The older Tyler got, the worse the beatings became. Instead of being an accidental monthly thing, they become bimonthly, then weekly and biweekly until unfortunately they become a daily occurrence. Jackie knew about the attacks, but for fear of becoming the next punching bag, she said nothing.
Naturally, being a dominate personality only made matters worse for Tyler. Especially as he intentionally set his father off with his behavior. Occasionally in an attempt to alert some attention to the mans actions and other times just because he felt like fighting back. The absolute worst occurrence was the night of Tyler’s 18th birthday. In the middle of his bash Tyler decided to address recent rumors that he was gay and would be coming out of the closet soon. He quickly denounced them by admitting that he was actually Bi and sealed the deal by making out with two random guests on stage. Of course, this caused an uproar, but never ones to waste money the Kings allowed the party to continue, but Tyler knew from the look in his father’s eyes that he was screwed.
The beating Tyler received that night was god-awful. By the end of it all, the boy had several broken ribs, a shattered collar bone and a collapsed lung. His father, however, managed to saunter away with a broken nose, one fractured rib and two dislocated fingers. After the attack was over Robert King, literally threw his son out into the street and that may have been the very thing that saved his life. Sarah Johnson, the daughter of their neighbor and a nurse, just happened to be visiting her father that night and managed to keep Tyler alive long enough for the paramedics to arrive. The police arrived shortly after an arrested Robert, taking Jackie in for questioning as well.
Several months of rehab and court proceedings later, Tyler was finally released from his parents grasp. His dad was sentenced to five years probation upon successful completion of the batterer’s program and anger management. Jackie was sentenced to six months house arrest, and Tyler was awarded a hefty sum by the courts along with receiving his trust fund early.
Tyler decided to put his new found wealth to good use and opened up NEX, and underground club with a few friends. The club did well for first two years. But it started to attract unwanted attention, which is how he found himself trapped and enslaved within Lucas Manor. Unfortunately, due to his past experience with his father Tyler knew exactly how to handle the vampires that lived there. He often went out of his way to save what few fast friends he made there.
The strongest and most detrimental friendship he made there was with Sabrina. The two of them together made a dangerously, co-dependent and self-sacrificial pair. One day Sabrina and a few other slaves devised a plan to escape from the Manor. Tyler knew that it most likely wouldn’t work, but couldn’t let Sabe go down alone so decided to run with her. As he predicted the plan failed miserably, they were all caught and punished. Tyler and Sabe were some of the lucky ones that made it out with a few nightmares and broken limbs. Five years later Sabrina was attacked out in the woods by a passing wolf. Seeing as how the castle was full of nothing but vampires and their slaves, they decided to attempt to escape again. This time it would appear that luck was one their side, because they survived.
They headed back to California, and after a year they managed to get their lives somewhat back to normal with the help of Tyler’s friends.
Tyler’s friends struggled to keep Nex open in his absence, but it continued to linger on until he returned. Once he did, it began to thrive again.
