Kumamoto, Aso-san, and Takahara
Through the mountains of Kumamoto, we chanced upon the collapsed roads, bridges, and landslides from the recent earthquakes. Though we had seen on TV, nothing had prepared us for the massive scale of the damage.
Still standing though were old Meiji towns and villages, a resident VW Typ-1 that looked nearly as old, and a michi-no-eki (road station) and a ropeway equipped with gondola from the space-age 1950s’ era of design.
We also managed another few snowy touge…
