Just in case I wasn’t the only one wondering.
every single mcr album character is adopted by me. the killjoys? gracie? cherri and blue and the whole comics crew? the patient? fear and regret? colton haynes and his ghostly gf? even mother war herself? emily? bonnie and clyde? helena the corpse bride? even the unnamed bullets people?? all my kids, they deserve some attention. my city now.
About the rebellion -
I always thought the Killjoys were more of a “just leave us alone if we leave you alone“ sort of movement, the only reason they kept clashing with BLI is because a) BLI didn’t leave them alone and b) kept coming after Gracie. But other Killjoy gangs, who are further out in the zones, and/or don’t happen to have the living nuclear bomb daughter of a famous Analog War rebel leader under their protection, are a lot more chill and have next to no confrontations with Dracs and co.
I understand the word “rebels“ in a punk sort of way. They’re not rebels in the sense of a resistance (let’s face it, there aren’t enough of them to really take on BLI), they’re rebels because they do what they want and live away from Battery City and BLI, and maybe occasionally make fun of the city and its people. Which, in BLI’s eyes, is of course an act of resistance or even terrorism in itself. Which is why they occasionally patrol the inner Zones, to keep up an impression of having everything under control. In reality, they don’t care that much, they only go after the Four because they want Gracie, who is the only real threat to them.
a year ago today i found out about the comics and stayed up half the night reading them all, resulting in my slow slip into the dangerverse speeding up into a headfirst dive. can’t believe it’s been such a short time.
me last year: i really love danger days but the rest of mcr kinda spooks me and i don't wanna be associated with that emo fandom it'd be so embarrassing, better never let anyone know how much i like dd
me now: have i even mentioned how much i fucking love mcr and their entire creative work in the last twenty minutes? i danced on rooftops to i'm not okay, i'm conducting college style research to get behind the album stories, and injected living with ghosts straight into my bloodstream the moment it came out.
i put a stool on the floor, and then another one on top of it (because i’m really small). i stand on the stools, only trembling slightly. slowly, i begin to gather attention. heads turn, and conversations die. finally, when complete silence has fallen, i raise my voice and say: “i really fucking love danger days with all my heart“. some cheers, some boos, some signs of indifference ensue. they are unsure what to do with this information. but i am not done yet. my breath hitches in my throat as i speak again and add: “but i also really fucking love three cheers with all my heart“ the people go rigid. wild. disbelief, astonishment, and outrage flare through the room like waves. alarm sirens go off somewhere. at least two windows shatter. everyone flips it. nobody notices me ascending from the chaos to a higher plane of existence.
gerard way is the type of artist who could sing the goddamn phone book and i’d listen to it for three weeks on repeat because i’d follow his voice to the ends of the universe and boldly go where no fan has gone before
