Hello Hello!

Welcome new followers, and good day to you old pals of The Typical Thyroid as well!

Today I'll keep it short. Lately this week I've had a big lump in my throat, right around where my thyroid is located which I've had to deal with a lot in the past. I used to have a hoarse voice and a annoying lump in my throat for several weeks, and it is a little weird when people ask if you have a cold and you just answer "No, it's just my thyroid". Luckily it got better but this week the lump came back for a while which it does sometimes, and I guess it's my thyroid telling me "I'm still here" so I need to take care of it by making healthy choices. But still, it's so annoying right? That #¤%%& Thyroid ;P

Hello all new friends!

Wow, 30 followers in a week, I’m so happy. Thanks you guys!

But something that does not make me, or The Thyroid happy, is doctors that focuses more on test results than asking you how you’re feeling, some of them simply don’t listen to you. Something as simple the right dose of medication can play a big part on how you’re feeling and it’s hard to get the right dosage, it takes a good doctor to figure it out. If you have several symptoms and you’re doctor won’t do anything about it, then please see another doctor! There are doctors that knows what to do about your problems and they don’t just look at the test results, they actually listen to you.

Another tip I have is to go on thyroid related Facebook groups or web forums, and talk to other patients. Most patients have more knowledge about thyroid diseases than the regular doctor and they can help you with what to ask your doctor or even help you find a good doctor. The Internet is golden for any patient, (but don’t forget to use your common sense, don’t believe everything you online).

Hello frenemies of The Thyroid!

How are you all doing? How's your thyroid? I hope The Thyroid's not making things too hard for you today. Which leads me to today's picture of The Typical Thyroid!

A typical problem that people with hypothyroidism suffers from is freezing. I, myself suffer from a a lot of cold feet (no not that kind) and cold hands. I usually sleep with socks on, which is not the sexiest look but it helps me sleep better when my feet are blocks of ice. Some days I freeze so much that I even sleep in my hoodie(!!!).

What can we do about the freezing? Other than the obvious; make sure we get the right treatment, so talk to your doctor about that. Otherwise grab someone to cuddle with, body heat is the best for keeping warm! If you don't have anyone to cuddle with, than invest in some serious blankets, fuzzy socks or whatever floats your boat.

Other things to do is to drink a hot beverage or exercise to get your blood flowing, I believe that will help you get warm as well.

Also remember that scarves are both practical, fashionable and nice and warm. So you can't have too many of those either to keep The Thyroid Warm.
