Batman 579 was published with a cover date of July 2000. The issue introduced Orca, created by Larry Hama and Scott McDaniel. Batman was put in a bad spot as he was both sympathetic towards the new criminal Orca and also being branded as working for Gotham's elite instead of the everyman.
