Beach and Stars [RP]

She’s not entirely sure when she stops keeping her gaze on the sand or the ocean. Maybe it’s the moment she notices his gaze on the sky and he’s telling her about the stars and his ‘bird. Maybe it’s the moment he laughs and begins to fully relax. She stands as he suddenly breaks into a sprint, smiling and shaking her head. She hesitates as he calls to her, pulling his large jacket tighter around her small frame. She eventually folds up his jacket and places it atop her shoes on the sand before running down to the water, doing a front flip and landing with her feet in the water.
John’s mouth is open in a little round O of surprise, the bottom of his jeans wet and cold from where he’s been splashed. Seawater is crawling up his legs, soaking into the fabric. A big wave hits the back of his knees, nearly buffeting him over and this is what shakes him out of his stupor as he flails to get his feet better planted in the wet sandy seabed.
“Gee!” He exclaims, wide eyed and impressed, “I didn’t know you took gymnastics in the Army, Lieutenant.” John is teasing her now, lightly ribbing as an elbow comes up to nobble against her upper arm. “Any other skills I don’t know about under your belt?”
