Neutrophil Squad x F! Immune Cell Reader Before Dating Headcanons
Warnings: N/A
@hellowiamadrawer Request: Hi again, if it's okay could I have some headcanons of how the female reader (can be an immune cell or regular cell) met the neutrophil squad (4989, 2048,2626 and ofc 2001) before they started dating?

U-2001
U-2001 probably met you when you were both newly matured neutrophils while in the middle of combat. While he's a skilled neutrophil, that doesn't mean that he's infallible.
In the middle of gutting a bacteria with one of his many knives, he forgets that he shouldn't leave his back wide open. As his receptor pings in urgency, he tries to turn around, knife in hand and at the ready, but is still slow to react.
Luckily for him, 2001 is not alone. Despite the bloodbath and carnage that decorates the middle of the bloodstream, you are there to protect him. Like him, you're not a seasoned veteran, but you are spry and full of life. The instant you recognize that your teammate is in trouble, you leap him and immediately annihilate the scum that dared to hurt another immune cell.
After a brief acknowledgement of your valiant efforts, the both of you go back into your attack positions and stave off the continuing infection.
For many cycles afterwards, you don't talk, but acknowledge each other. Respect grows between you and you can on him to step in whenever a bacterium or parasite proves too much and vice versa.
It isn't until the both of you end up being critically injured and sent to the infirmary that you and 2001 finally have a conversation that doesn't require the use of your combat skills and bloodlust.
Between the two of you, your warrior's bond far exceeds everything and allows you to build your relationship from mutual trust and respect.
U-2048
You meet U-2048 when he's busy trying to flirt with various civilian cells. While he definitely has the looks for a cliche Casanova type, he isn't that great with his words.
As an immune cell, he already has points docked for attractiveness because of his inherent bloodlust that comes with the territory, so that rule out most civilians. But, he also has points docked for being rather too forward or too coy with his advances.
He will never admit it, but he can never find the right balance when trying to woo possible love interests.
With you, though, he's a strong conversationalist. Despite his apparent interest in trying to go for various other cells, he always find time to relax and joke around you. Here, all his corny puns and pick up lines actually sound smooth and not like he rehearsed them many times in the mirror like he was still a myelocyte.
Eventually, those pick up lines begin to grow more and more true. It starts as something small. Innocuous. Something he can plausibly deny as being a product of inebriation or deliberate teasing.
However, as time goes on, he becomes more bold and more willing to take risks.
In the end, this culminates in an impromptu confession where he is no longer afraid of possible rejection or making his feelings known.
Whether or not you reject him, he'll be fine. All he wants is to show you that he can be truthful and honest about his feelings.
U-2626
Getting to know U-2626 is a unique experience. He's level headed and rational, compassionate and loyal. Although his hair masks his eyes, and thus, many of his expressions, you can tell that he's always pleased to see you.
It's his smile, his laugh, and his mannerisms that make him intriguing. He's an engaging character who's always keen to make you giggle at his jokes or the stories about his teammates that he made you swear you wouldn't tell anyone.
He's a sweet companion, a friend to you at your lowest, darkest moments. Attentive and kind, he's always there with a mug of steaming green tea and a cone of glucose should you ever need it.
Furthermore, he's while he's great at conversation, he's also a good listener. It doesn't matter if you want to complain or to pass the time by talking about the trivial. He lives for them all because he can spend time with you.
As a result, it's because of these conversations that the both of you come to realize that the both of you hold each other in a positive regard. So much so that it's not long before the both of you are in a relationship—much to the bemusement and fond exasperation of your coworkers.
U-4989
With U-4989, you know you’re always in for a ride.
You know that most of 4989’s improvised weapons are against regulation, but you can’t help indulging him in his whimsical creations that do, more often than not, actually get the job done. You wouldn’t be giving up your standard issued weapons any time soon, but seeing 4989 go after bacteria with a sign for glucose sweets or a pan filled with various nutrients never fails to make you smile.
It’s all adventure and adrenaline with the both of you. It’s almost like the world is constantly colliding and spinning faster and faster, never stopping. From the amusing to the horrifying, the both of you face life’s challenges and hardships with laughter spilling from your mouths and joy in your souls.
For a good while, you thought you were just good friends with him, but then he starts making things for you. Sometimes, it’s weapons. Other times, neat little trinkets that don’t often have a functional purpose, but look pretty in your dorm room. Each and every time, without fail, you thank him and you watch as his large eyes grow wide and his cheeks become saturated with the color of an eosinophil’s uniform.
You grow to love this cute, bashful side of 4989.
Unfortunately, he isn’t always the best with words, often favoring physical affection and action.
That’s more than fine by you.
Really, it’s fine if he wants to take the lead in other aspects of this burgeoning relationship, but it’s you who steps up and tells him that you would like to be official.
Again, his eyes bulge wide open and he looks shocked, but in the end, he accepts.
Every day, from then on, he’s always at your side, fiddling with something new and making sure that you have the nicest of his creations.

Here you go a WBC squad cheat sheet, for those who mess up their codes:
U-1146: main neutrophil boi. Serious, collected, a dedicated man. Relatively responsible father figure. A simp. Eats his feelings. Doesn’t know what chivalry is but keeps it alive.
U-4989: one bubbly, chaotic, fluffy-haired boi. Will use anything but his knife in battle. 1146's best bro. Loyal baby. Poop jokes.
U-2626: sightless neutrophil boi, hentai anime protag. Has an impractical bowl-cut just to stare at butts. He can cook!
U-2048: Mr will steal yo girl. Parted, straight bangs. What a fucker. Pretty smile. A good friend. Knows what chivalry is and keeps it alive.
U-2001: looks the oldest, looks the most composed, but he's just so tired. Gave up on keeping tabs on the other four, he's off to retirement and nobody can stop him.
Hey there! Just wanted to let you know CAW White has had it's first 6 chapters translated by tumblr littlecookiecat. Also have you ever checked out the anime 86/Eighty Six? It's currently at 5 episodes of 2 cour show and based off a light novel series (10-ongoing). It's not like Akudama but for some reason I think you might like it. It's mystery dystopia scifi where the main character starts off naive and discovers how much more twisted the world is. But she keeps fighting to change things.
Oh my gosh! Hello, hello, hello! I read the first six chapters and my gosh, they were so incredibly well done! For the most part, the characterizations that were theorized and were part of fanon for so long actually hold up???
Like, I was so scared a couple years ago when I started characterizing and writing the WBC squad as my own that it would all fall apart if there was more interactions and dialogue from these characters, but so far??? I’m amazed??? geeze, the fandom was so young, but the headcanons everyone had really live up to the expectations and the reality of the manga.
Anyway, some observations I made:
(SPOILERISH???)
Band Cell is so adorable and cute! I thought that he was going to be some sort of tsundere, but he’s actually so earnest and kind! I really like how his innocence and naïveté mirrors that of AE-3803, which is pretty ironic given the fact that White definitely follows canon. It’s a good mirror of each other and while canon showcases AE-3803’s growth, I really want to see Band Cell grow as well.
Also, I love his uniform! You can tell that he’s a neutrophil because the design is almost identical to that of mature neutrophils, but the differences really add to the newness and innocence of the character. The short sleeves and those shoes??? Really adorable and heights the differences in both height and attitude.
Speaking of attitude, I find it hilarious that Band Cell is nowhere as bloodthirsty as his superiors—yet. It seems to be a culture shock for new cells everywhere to be concerned over immune cells (neutrophils especially) going bloodthirsty over perceived threats.
The chapter where there the WBC squad play tag is so cute!!! It makes me think of the training that the white blood cells undergo in the bone marrow. I think I’ve read in a fanfic somewhere that both white and red blood cells would share a few classes together because they both would be traversing the body for their own areas of work. Hehehe, I guess that’s disproven now given the fact that Band Cell really needs to work on his navigational skills.
ALSO! WBC Squad bribing Dendritic Cell??? Hehehe, called it! (Not really, but do I have a fanfic where U-2001 teams up with Dendritic Cell over blackmail, hahah!).
Speaking of U-2001… MAH BOI ISN’T HERE!!! I MEAN, THERE ARE HINTS OF ANOTHER CELL, BUT IT COULD EASILY BE ANY OTHER CELL, BUT MY HEART OF HEARTS KEEP TELLING ME IT’S HIM WHENEVER I SEE A NEUTROPHIL WITH A BUZZ CUT!!!
*coughs*
Justice for my boy 2001.
And, of course, the boys…
2626: My gosh, he’s so adorable! He’s more subdued than the others, but he’s just as mischievous as 4989. I love the fact that even though bacteria tastes bland no matter what you do, he still insists on cooking it. He’s also really nice and kind, a good balm towards 2048’s too cool/too suave for you nature, 4989’s chaotic feralness, and 1146’s dad energy. Definitely team mom if 2001/1146 aren’t taking up that role.
4989: Maybe it’s just me, but he hasn’t been improvising weapons? Like, that’s one of the signature things he does? I read the chapters once recently, so maybe I wasn’t paying too much attention, but I don’t think he’s been experimenting. I saw Band Cell throw a “caution” sign at a bacterium, but nothing more. Other than that, he’s very mischievous and the baby of the group if Band Cell wasn’t there. I like that tidbit where 1146 and him are the messy eaters, ahahah!
2048: Chubby baby boy who probably still is insecure over his appearance as an adult. He’s overcompensating, but he’s also cute and charming! Definitely one of those fanon characterizations that still somewhat hold up to this day. I also like the fact that his relationship with Band Cell kind of mirrors that of 1146 and 3803. The whole knowing each other when they were younger, that kind of thing. I love how 2048 is so tsundere towards Band Cell, but gives in eventually.
1146: Utter. Perfection. He’s there for his junior and he’s willing to support him and make sure that he’s safe at all times. Not once has he berated Band Cell for incompetence or for being too cowardly or slow. He’s so awesome and I really, really hope that 3803 comes into join because I bet she would be so proud of 1146 for being so supportive of Band Cell! I also love the whole bridal carry thing. Both cells aren’t embarrassed by it and honestly, I want more of that in media in general. That’s some good stuff. Platonic bridal carry.
Some other notes:
Naive and Band Cell need to be best friends. Or shipped. Whatever happens, happens.
I also think that Band Cell and AE-3803 would bond over being newbies together??? Please, add in AE-3803!!! It would be so great!
Platelets are forever cute and I found myself laughing when they accused the neutrophils of cheating in their game of tag.
The bacteria that attacked Band Cell before the bridal carry was startling similar to the bacterium that attacked 1146 and 3803 when they were kids… CINEMATIC PARALLELS!
And… hmmm… That’s about it, I guess. I’m really looking forward to new chapters and for more lore about the body!
In response to the rest of your message...
I actually heard of 86! I’m not sure if I’ll get around to watching it. Right now, I’m actually watching Shadows House (super creepy, super dark slice of life and definitely a dark horse this season). I plan on binging Mars Red and Odd Taxi once their episodes conclude, though. Is 86 any good? It’s been recommended by a couple of anitubers that I watch, but I haven’t found the appeal yet. Maybe I might watch it once the season is over, who knows...
Anyway, thanks for the message and I hope that you have a wonderful day! :D
EDIT: BY THE BY... IS IT JUST ME... OR IS BAND CELL REALLY SIMILAR IN APPEARANCE TO HACKER FROM AKUDAMA DRIVE??? PLEASE DON’T TELL ME IT’S JUST ME!
Warnings: Slight fluff, slight angst, death mentions, etc.

U-1146 with an Immune Cell S/O
Like most of his relationships, his relationship with his S/O is going to start out in the most professional way possible. Perhaps they’ll meet during a mission, a break in between killing pathogens, or maybe in the bone marrow as sparring partners. Whatever the case, his falling for his S/O takes an absurdly long time.
Confronting and telling his S/O about his feelings takes even longer.
So, if 1146 wants to have a relationship with his S/O that isn’t professional, he’s either going to take forever to pursue a romantic relationship or maybe his S/O will be far more courageous.
When 1146 actually starts his courtship, he’ll be bashful at first, but then he’ll start to become more outgoing. He’ll make sure to take his S/O out to the most scenic areas within the body and spend calming walks with cups of tea in their hands.
As for missions, he doesn’t mind if their schedules don’t match up. Since his S/O is an immune cell, he knows what hardships they’ll go through and what it takes to survive. That said, he’ll worry after the dust settles, but in the thick of battle, he has faith that his loved one will be okay.
The thought that his S/O may die while defending the body doesn’t cross his mind that often. Trust and loyalty are things that he doesn’t offer freely so to think that he’ll desecrate his S/O’s abilities by thinking that they might fail… It’s in his nature to think the best of others, that they’re always improving.
U-1146 with a Civilian Cell S/O
Let’s face it, 1146 is going to find his S/O when he’s busy defending them. He’s far too serious and too conservative to seek out civilians on his own, so their first meeting is when 1146 is going to be out on the hunt.
Furthermore, his S/O will either have to be persistent in trying to find 1146 just to talk to him or perhaps a series of coincidences and happenstance will have to make sure that he and his S/O will meet up again. Either way, it will be hard to get a hold of 1146 at the very beginning.
However, once he and his S/O establish a friendship, that’s when he’ll start to grow feelings bordering on romance. Since this is a civilian S/O, he’ll naturally feel curious about his S/O’s work.
What do they do? How can they do it with such ease? As an immune cell, he isn’t privy to having a break that isn’t prefaced with looking over his shoulder every couple seconds in case an attack occurs. He’ll find that the more time he spends with his S/O, the more likely it is for him to relax.
He worries over his S/O from time to time, but he manages to train them to always run away and seek cover in the case of an attack. His S/O dying is something that he would rather not entertain, but even he is realistic about this scenario.
General Headcanons with U-1146
Tea. He’ll make his S/O lots of tea. Doesn’t matter if you’re having a great day or a bad day, tea will always be provided.
He doesn’t sing that often, but if his S/O is willing to duet with him or be subjected to a private serenade… Well, he’s not fully enjoying himself because singing isn’t his passion, but he does feel happy when his S/O lights up whenever he sings their favorite song.
He likes to take long walks around the body once he and his S/O’s schedules line up.
U-2001 with an Immune Cell S/O
This man isn’t all too interested in romantic or sexual pursuits. However, if he does try to go through with this endeavor, more likely than not, his reasoning for it will stem from mutual respect. He’s a competent and calm cell by nature—quite like U-1146 in this respect—but he isn’t as foolish or as slow to act like him. If 2001 knows that he has feelings for a potential S/O, he will be rather blunt and quick about it.
If he’s rejected, so be it. If he’s allowed into his S/O’s life, then there’s that.
Once he’s established a relationship, it won’t seem like anything has changed. To anyone observing on the outside, they probably don’t notice that 2001 and his S/O are in a relationship. However, behind the scenes, 2001 seeks out stimulating conversation and even physical affection.
U-2001 with a Civilian Cell S/O
He is one of the most elusive of the WBC squad. Although he works amiably alongside civilian cells in the body, he doesn’t take time out of his day to actually seek out the presence of civilians. He’s just as professional as 1146, but he lacks the endearing cuteness that he has.
However, what 2001 lacks for in warmth, he makes up for in devotion and loyalty.
2001 likes to walk his S/O to and from work, often parting with a quick, but loving farewell. He’ll use this time to pay attention to his S/O’s interests and perhaps suggest an outing after work or surprise them with a gift that they’ve been wanting.
General Headcanons with U-2001
Deep down inside, 2001 is basically an old man. Therefore, if he isn’t on patrols, his S/O can find him reading in cafes around the body or lounging in the marginating pools. This is the time where his S/O can cuddle up to him.
2001 is also fond of ruffling his S/O’s hair. Honestly, he’ll make it a game where he’ll take the cap off their head while they’re not noticing, ruffle it until their hair ends up like a bird’s nest, and then gently slap the hat back on their head. The messier and more ruffled his S/O looks, the brighter his smile.
He prefers comfortable silences with his S/O. He’s a man of few words, so it’s through his actions that he’ll display his love for his S/O. He’ll more than often communicate with gestures like a brush of the shoulder, a kiss on the brow, and the final squeeze of their hands before letting go.
2001 will never admit this, he has a soft spot for sweets. If his S/O should be so inclined, then they can easily have him wrapped around their finger.
U-2048 with an Immune Cell S/O
For the most part, if his S/O is an immune cell, it probably didn’t start out too well. Despite the fact that he has come a long way from his days as a myelocyte, he is still somewhat insecure and anxious about his capabilities to be a great immune cell. Because of that, it only stands to reason that he may posture too much in his S/O’s presence before an established relationship or he may envy his S/O’s abilities if they surpass his own.
However, once there is a breakthrough—perhaps they are sent on a mission together, they save the other’s life time and time again, etc.—they slowly start to warm up to each other. If 2048 can get over his insecurities and if his S/O gives him enough time to make sure that he takes this relationship seriously, then it would work.
In a relationship, 2048 likes to think himself suave and flirtatious. Turns out, one smile or a cheeky little quip from his S/O could turn him into a puddle of cytoplasm. However, that isn’t to say 2048 isn’t capable of both giving and receiving affections.
He’ll bring his S/O gifts. Anything that they’ll like, anything that looks pretty or something that could suit his S/O’s features, he will make sure that his S/O gets it.
He truly believes that his S/O deserves the world.
Out of the rest of the WBC squad, he is one of the most heavily devastated if his S/O dies in the line of duty. Although he may have resolved most of his issues once he established a relationship with his S/O, he may still be reserved when it comes to admitting his affections. If his S/O dies too soon, then he’ll spend countless cycles wondering if he should have said that he cared more, done more, acted like he cared more.
He’s never truly the same if the inevitable happens.
U-2048 with a Civilian Cell S/O
It’s a bit funny, he supposes, that he might find the civilian cells interesting. He’s not too popular with the platelets (or any of the civilians, to be honest), but he does have a duty to the body. In the midst of a battle or during the post recovery efforts after an invasion, perhaps he’ll stay behind and make sure that the victims are taken care of.
Or maybe one of the victims takes care of him.
Either way, 2048 and his S/O meet while he’s on the field and they’re subjected—quite early on—to what it would be like to hang out with 2048. He can be proud, standoffish, possibly overcompensating for something with the way he acts, but he can also be caring and devoted. Even though he may not know how to deal with a civilian’s stress or tears, he will make sure that his charge is well taken care of.
2048 may be rather curious and forthcoming in his efforts to find his S/O again after his initial meeting. After all, he wants to find out if his attempts to make sure that his efforts at comfort were worth something, you know? It’s not like he cares more than that… (Spoiler alert: he slowly becomes more and more caring).
Meetings become more and more frequent, meetings become outings, outings into something more.
A relationship is formed and 2048, for once, seems whole and complete. He doesn’t have to prove something if he doesn’t have to.
But—
If his S/O dies while in battle or during an attack… It’s all over and he just might retreat into himself. What’s the point of becoming secure and more honest with oneself if it’s all taken away because the nature of the body is to be cruel on a whim?
General Headcanons with U-2048
He is a bit of a show off. If his S/O is caught off guard, then it’ll be easy for 2048 to sweep them off his feet. However, his S/O isn’t simply just his S/O because it would be easy. No, 2048 actually likes it when his S/O trips him up from time to time, giving him a taste of his own medicine.
2048 likes to think himself suave and one of the more handsome cells in the body, but he’s quick to worship his S/O. If someone so much as thinks his S/O isn’t that attractive, he’ll definitely get on the offender’s case and will reassure his S/O in the same breath.
Tease him. Keep him humble. His S/O will marvel at how cute he looks when his normally white pallor becomes flush with a bright red hue.
U-2626 with an Immune Cell S/O
If he’s not out fighting, he’s an on-call medic with abilities that rival that of a macrophage. So, if he comes across a particularly attractive immune cell who just so happens to be wounded, he’ll patch them up and see them on their way.
And, perhaps, the story about 2626 and his S/O might end there, but it simply doesn’t.
2626 has a way with words, a presence that most would take for granted, but some would find refreshing like a fresh glass of water. When he treats his patients (aside from scolding 1146), he can be calm and authoritative, always knowing what to say and how to say it.
And perhaps… it’s more than likely that it’s his S/O who seeks him out.
Accidents and injuries aren’t unheard of, but the rate of injury—just for you!—it’s almost remarkable. Pretty soon, 2626 knows to expect you more times than not and because he’s more in tune with your presence, he becomes more and more frantic about your state.
Soon, he basically calls himself your personal medic and gives you advice on how to keep yourself from injury. Eventually, though, 2626 and his S/O start meeting outside of the battlefield and that’s when 2626 starts realizing that maybe… just maybe… his S/O wanted to meet with him because he is genuinely a good person.
It’s a shocking discovery for 2626, but he does end up teasing his S/O for it later on in their relationship.
If his S/O dies while defending the body, he’ll be quiet and withdrawn. He’s not exactly resigned to the idea, but he does know that one day injuries can’t be healed, bodies can’t be so easily restored.
Sometimes, cell bodies will take a hit too deep, scarring is no longer an option… and it’s time to say goodbye.
2626 will move on, but his heart aches a little every time he treats a cell who might share a trait with his S/O.
U-2626 with a Civilian Cell S/O
To be frank, 2626 doesn’t know if he has medical jurisdiction over civilian cells. Well, management hasn’t said anything about it and civilians haven’t complained about his methods, so he’s going to assume that this civilian is more than likely his responsibility for the time being.
Or, perhaps he’ll meet them while he’s out playing with the platelets or hanging around some of the scenic locations in the body.
Whatever the case, 2626, is very kind and caring towards them. He also understands that a lot of civilian cells aren’t too comfortable with the immune system and that it may take time for them to become used to him.
He’s loyal, but he’s also very persistent.
He’ll be good friends with his S/O and make sure that they’re comfortable. After spending so much time with his crew, it’s safe to say that he has a lot of humorous stories to tell, jokes to recount, and a lot of secret passages and forgotten paths to exploit so that he can entertain his S/O.
Like with his immune cell S/O, death is inevitable. However, he also knows that since his S/O isn’t an immune cell, their death should be avoidable at the very least. It’s one thing to know that his S/O will die once they outlive their usefulness to the body, quite another to realize that they died while he was on duty.
General Headcanons with U-2626
He’s a worrier and a mother-er at his core. If he suspects that there is anything wrong with his S/O, he will do anything in his power to provide for them and make sure that they are whole and whole—physically and mentally. (His S/O shouldn’t be surprised if he starts throwing gauze, bandages, and ointments around if there is anything amiss).
He’s also a great shoulder to cry on. Seriously, his shoulder isn’t bony at all and if his S/O rests themself on him, he’ll run his fingers up and down their back, against his scalp, and kiss their brow if need be.
He can be a bit of a prankster. If his S/O thinks that he’s hiding something or it may seem that he’s being too quiet… It's probably because he’s going to surprise them with something romantic or something horribly funny.
Brushing his bangs aside is a special treat because A) his S/O will realize just how fluffy his hair is and B) they will see how wide, expressive, and beautiful his eyes are.
U-4989 with an Immune Cell S/O
4989 may or may not have permanently borrowed his S/O’s standard issue equipment at one point. Or may have interrupted an intense climax during battle only to wave around a tray of steamed buns in front of both ally and enemy eyes.
To put it simply, 4989 makes a name for himself. Management and administration takes notice and so does his S/O. 4989 can be a bit flighty, but that’s all right with his S/O. It’s easy to track down 4989 he has an impressive track record floating the rules concerning weaponry, equipment, and the customization of contraband items.
Once he and his S/O meet, he’s also curious about them as well. What kind of cell would seek him out? That starts a conversation between the two of them and pretty soon, 4989 invites his S/O out on missions so they can see his inventions in action. (And if his S/O wants to start helping or creating their own contraptions then he’s not going to judge. He will, however, smile proudly).
In the end, both his S/O and himself become a bacterium’s worst nightmare.
As the youngest member in the squad, it’s hard for him to truly grasp what death is like. Sure, he’s a killer and he has known many veterans to commit apoptosis when they’re too old or give out in the midst of battle, but he doesn’t know how to describe how he feels when it’s his S/O’s fate to die. Could he have done something to help prevent their death? An invention that could have catapulted that bacterium off their back? A contraption that would have served as a great distraction? It haunts him and if he cuts back on inventing new weapons for a few cycles, no one really questions it.
U-4989 with a Civilian Cell S/O
When the higher ups realized that 4989 had stolen and abused your trays of steamed buns to defend the body, they were more than pissed. They were pissed because 4989 had flouted their orders once again. They were embarrassed because it seemed like they didn’t have the funding to equip their immune cells with the proper weapons and gadgets. And they were determined to get it through his nucleus that he couldn’t simply take and modify any sort of equipment from any cell—especially that of civilian cells.
So when his S/O finds out that an immune cell has been forced into community service for a couple cycles, it’s a bit jarring to say the least. True, it was weird to find out that the reason why they were short on steamed buns was because an immune cell had seen fit to use it for defense. It intrigues his S/O, so while 4989 is enlisted in service, his S/O begins to strike up conversation. First, out of curiosity, but then…
They both want to learn more about each other.
At first, 4989 indulges in his S/O about all of his inventions, ways to get around management, and being an all around fun guy, but then they start to connect on a deeper level. Once his S/O starts rooting underneath the surface, 4989 practically becomes putty for them.
And once he’s become putty… he’s practically head over heels for them.
He’ll sneak them away for different outings around the body and regale them with stories about his squad.
As for death, he simply doesn’t want to think about it. Childishly, he knows that it’s always possible: endothelial cells could crumble, bacteria wilts, and the body is a volatile environment at times. At best, he’ll spend what time he can with his S/O, trying to memorize their laughter, smile, and whatever else he likes most about them.
General Headcanons with U-4989
This man will literally do anything to make his S/O happy. Administration, management, the higher ups? Doesn’t matter. He’s already probably on their blacklist anyways, so what’s more non-issue, non-standard tinkering with a regulation weapon or item? (Yes, he will make stupid inventions just to watch his S/O laugh and smile at the sheer ridiculousness of it all).
He’s a bit of a crybaby underneath his immune cell exterior, so his S/O should always have a couple of handkerchiefs on hand to wipe his tears. His S/O should also be understanding and willing to help him through moments of weakness as well.
Please ruffle his hair. And pat his cheeks. And nuzzle his nose. Physical affection is main love language and he will swear that his S/O giving him love is ten times as healing as 2626’s medical care.

Anonymous Request: CAW: 1146 wakes up in the hospital thinking he's there because he defeated a germ. The squad (plus Band Cell) gradually tell him no. He's here because when he and 3803 were trapped in a collapsed room, he mistook the platetes moving debris for a nearby germ (that they killed), slipped on a ice cube and banged his head. 3803 had to carry bridal style out and all the way to the hospital. They all deal w/1146's reaction in different ways (which probably makes it worse). X P

Waking up to bright fluorescent lights and the faces of his closest friends above him wasn’t unusual.
Although U-1146 never made it a habit to end up in the infirmary, it was a common enough occurrence that he felt himself minutely relaxing against his pillows. As always, both U-2626 and U-4989 were playing nurse by alternating asking him questions about his cognitive and physical abilities while U-2048 busied himself with a magazine in the corner. The ruckus that 2626 and 4989 caused within his room must have alerted the macrophages outside because U-2001 managed to slip inside the door, a slightly irritated expression on his face.
“Quiet down,” he ordered his colleagues before turning to 1146. His stoic gaze assessed 1146’s figure and when 1146 seemed to pass his examination, he gave a slight smile. “It’s good to have you back. For a moment, we all thought that you were going to take another cycle to recuperate.”
2048 didn’t look up from his magazine. “You might be worried, but I wasn’t.”
Without skipping a beat, 2626 leveraged a bomb against his friend. “Is that why you were tenderly holding 1146’s hand while we were carting him away?”
2048’s stark white fingers seemed to grow even paler as he slightly rumpled the covers of the latest issue of the identification of pathogens. “I… I was making sure that he still had a pulse!”
Before 2626 and 2048 could continue, 1146 smoothly cut in. At this point in the conversation, it was best to update the wounded on the current affairs outside of the infirmary. Given the lack of grim stoicism and seriousness afforded to disastrous events in the body (like the common cold), it was safe to assume that all was well.
But it never hurts to ask.
“What happened?” One of his hands prodded the back of his head, noting the texture of an inflamed bump that was accompanied with a dull, but present ache. “I feel like a Pseudomonas aeruginosa threw me around like a child with a toy before trying to finish me off.”
“Well,” 4989 hedged. “You’re not wrong. There was a Pseudomonas present at the site.”
1146 frowned at the brief, but alarming reply.
4989 hedging and not telling him point blank what had happened was never a good sign.
Who else was there? Had a civilian gotten hurt?
The dull ache in his head began to ebb and flow like the bloodstream on an unusually strenuous day. The longer he thought about it, he realized that there was definitely something he had forgotten.
Or rather, someone.
Despite his body’s protests, 1146 tried to push himself into a seated position. That would have been somewhat acceptable for his friends, but he pushed it too far when he tried to swing his legs over the side of his bed. As the dull ache continued to throb, he began to remember fragments of disjointed memories.
There was a building…
Several species of bacteria had been plotting to invade the body and chief among them was a Pseudomonas aeruginosa…
But the memory that had the most weight was the familiar image of his favorite red blood cell reaching towards him in panic.
It was as if someone had poured a bucket of ice cold water over his head. Quickly scanning the faces of his friends, he noted their worried expressions.
What if—?
“Did… did something happen to Miss Red Blood Cell?”
Normally, someone (usually 49894) would have made a quip that 1146 would have to be more specific because there were at least a billion or so female red blood cells running around the body. However, 1146 could take things a little too seriously if left unattended and they definitely didn’t want to face a macrophage’s wrath if he left the infirmary too early.
“Not so much her… so much as you.” 2001 held 1146’s gaze as firmly as he would a business handshake. “There was an attack near the left knee, a site that we all know has been prone to contracting infection due to abrasions. From what our colleagues from other units could report, you had managed to subdue many of the pathogens and had retreated inside a building to check up on a group of civilian cells since the fight was dying down. And then…”
2001, for some odd reason, looked a little uncomfortable. As a stoic, it was hard to find any event that could phase him from his cool, collected demeanor. However, even he seemed to struggle with how to phrase his next sentiment aloud without…
Laughing?
“What happened,” 1146 ground out. His body was shaking with the need to move, to see if the erythrocyte he had befriended was okay. “Why am I here?”
2001 coughed.
“You slipped on a—”
“Youslippedonapieceofdebrisandhityourhead!” Much to everyone’s consternation—especially, 2001’s—4989 couldn’t help himself from blurting aloud what had truly happened. It should be noted that 4989 had been bouncing up and down with excitement as 2001 tried to explain. “And then—! And then—!”
“Miss Red Blood Cell had to carry you back to the infirmary.” 2626 concluded.
“Bridal style,” 2048 couldn’t help but add.
“Yes,” 2001 nodded at 1146 who looked like he was about to go into shock. “If I recall, she burst inside with you in her arms. Quite dramatic.”
Later on, 1146 would later deny the accusations that he was being melodramatic over something that could have happened to anyone.
Instead of laughing or brushing it off, 1146 held his head in his hands and gave a deep, heaving sigh. And without further ado—
He collapsed onto the soft mattress and buried his face onto his equally soft pillow.
“Is… is he trying to suffocate himself out of shame?”
“No! It’s not worth it! Don’t do it!”
1146 groaned and hoped that management would never catch wind of how utterly unprofessional this was.
