a Chicago reporter shared a video from today. Mack has assembled an army of Canadians in Vancouver. Apparently NHL has confirmed there will be a standalone U23 showcase game at the World Cup of Hockey in 2028. I’m guessing Mack knows about this.

Based on the available talent pool and fan interest, the overwhelming expectation is:

Canada U23 vs. USA U23

TThis would showcase the next generation of NHL stars before the main tournament. Depending on the age cut off, Logan Cooley and Cutter Gucci won’t be eligible, which means the captainship will likely go to Ryan Leonard like the 2025 World Juniors as it’s a lot of the same guys who will probably make the team. And you know they’d wanna line Mack up against Will. Based on these factors, I dunno if we see Will in Vancouver. He absolutely can’t train with the Canadians if that’s what Mack’s prepping for because they only have so many summers to train together while the 2004 and after Americans have spent tons of time working together.

It's hard to try to sort out what they have planned for training this summer. Is the Sam/Mack/Misa training the same as the Bedard/Mack/McKenna training we heard about? Is it Canada exclusive thing? Or is the Sam/Mack/Misa thing part of a larger Sharks training session? Is it just the three of them? The three of them plus Smitty?

When are Will and Mack going to train together? Did those plans fall through entirely? Is Mack attending the Halifax camp again? Will Mack smuggle Will into any Canadian-exclusive training environments again this year?

Takuya Furusawa (24) is probably the most remarkable Japanese wheelchair basketball of these days. Takuya was born with a congenital condition called spina bifida. This means that his spine and his spinal cord didn't form properly. When he was just six years old, he also developed syringomyelia, a complication which further damaged his spinal cord and it's surrounding nerve tissue. He has been paralyzed from the waist down ever since and lost all feeling in his legs.

Now being a full-time wheelchair user, Takuya's mother encouraged him to visit a wheelchair basketball experience session in Yokohama, his hometown. Takuya remembers that he thought it was quite challenging, but he loved it right away!

Takuya was really motivated for improving his skills, and he never have a hard time practicing. He soon joined the "Para Kanagawa SC", from Fujisawa City.

At the age of 17, Takuya represented his country for the first time at the 2013 "U23 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship".

In 2016, Takuya became captain of the U23 Japanese national team. Later that year, the Japanese team won the silver medal at the "Fazza International Wheelchair Basketball Tournament" in Dubai(UAE).

Takuya helped Para Kanagawa winning the "Kitakyushu Champions Cup" both in 2016 and in 2017. He also attributed to their victory at the "Mitsubishi Electric World Challenge Cup" in Tokyo in 2018.

His next big goal? Competing in the 2021 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, for which he has been selected!
