It was in the mid 90s, that Arno Peeters aka Sp@sms aka The Implant, started questioning what techno would actually define: does it need a four-to-the-floor beat? TBT: in July 1993, dance writer @passet reviewed the first ever U-TRAX release in Dutch dance magazine Bassic Groove: ""If you think on the same wavelength, don't call us, call a doctor!" The new Utrecht record label U-TRAX cannot be denied a healthy dose of humor. The music that is portrayed on the first two releases however, is less happy, yet not less intriguing. After Drome Tapes, Richard v.d. Giessen aka DJ White Delight has taken matters seriously and started his own record label. The emphasis will be on Utrecht techno. His own 'Ditties from the White Lodge' contains four abstract techno tracks made together with DJ Zero One. 'Hyperspectiv' is the most trancey track and 'ODM' shows the most club potential with its rubber ball bass." Out now: DJ White Delight with DJ Zero One - Ditties from the White Lodge. Every label starts with its first release, and for U-TRAX the first release back in 1993 was one of the rare records that featured label boss DJ White Delight as a producer, together with DJ Zero One. For the first time ever, remastered versions of the four tracks of the inaugural release are available for download (@beatport @junodownload @traxsource etc) and streaming (@spotify @deezer @applemusic etc.). TBT - June 1993: review of our first release ever, in UK mag Echoes, by esteemed music journalist @krisneeds. He was a U-TRAX enthusiast from the start and we will always be grateful for his support. Tomorrow, we will release a remastered version of this inaugural U-TRAX release, for those who never settle for the obvious. Back in the early nineties, dance magazines printed on paper were a big thing. The wwweb was still in its infancy, internet connections were slow. We had to rely on national magazines for our info, or those imported from the UK, Germany or the US.
