Netherlands to lead MH17 investigation, 277 bodies found

KUALA LUMPUR, July 21

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk said his country was prepared to give Netherlands the role of coordinator in the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 investigation.

“As the side that suffered most, the Netherlands may lead the investigation in close coordination and cooperation with all other parties,” said Yatseniuk at the Ukraine Crisis Media Centre (UCMC) today as quoted by the UCMC’s official website.

“All Ukrainian law enforcement bodies and international partners are already involved in conducting an all-encompassing, transparent, and full-fledged international investigation of the tragedy,” said Yasteniuk.

He also stated that as of today, 277 bodies out of the 298 on board the flight have been found and 251 of which have already been loaded into four refrigerated wagons as part of two train echelons.

However, Yatseniuk said the trains have not yet departed from the Torez city station as they are being blocked by armed terrorists, which he claimed are being controlled and coordinated by Russia.

“They are not letting us send the bodies to Amsterdam,” he said, adding that best forensic investigation facilities were located there.

Fielding questions from international journalists regarding the tragedy, he said that Russia played a large part in causing the incident as pro-Russian separatists were alleged to have shot down the plane, according to the governments of the Ukraine and the United States.

“They are people trained on Russian territory. It is from Russia that the criminals received weapons, money, training and skills.

“All those to blame for this horrible tragedy will be subject to justice, including the country that stood behind the scenes of this crime,” said Yatseniuk, adding that no encouragement of the investigation and return of the bodies of the deceased to their homeland had been provided by Russia.

RECAP: Tuesday Men's - Playoff Edition

FC United – South Loop

FC United - the #2 seed - took on South Loop - the #3 seed - in the first of two rousing semifinal games last night. The higher seed jumped out to an early lead thanks to goals from Amer Ghafari and Adrian Chavez. The latter ripped a bouncing rebound past the keeper from distance. The first half completely belonged to United and it seemed they would walk away with an easy victory. Keeper, Aran Quinn had little to do in the back as United’s defense completely shut down Loop’s attack.

During the half, something must have been said because South Loop took the field completely revved up. They put together quick moves and stifled United's counter. Aldo Huitzil won a penalty mid-way through the second stanza, which he slammed home. Moments later, a lovely cutback to the 6, a tap-in, and we were all square at 2. With all the momentum, it looked like Loop might just pull off the comeback.

Quinn kept United in the game late as Loop continued their surge. Finally, United gained a measure of control. Adrian Chavez skirted by a couple would-be defenders on the touch-line before finding Amer just outside the 18. Amer slotted the ball through to an on-running Bartosz Jankowski, alone in front of keeper and net. He expertly hit it by Loop’s last man for the winner. Truly a tale of two halves. Congrats to United for booking their tickets to Toyota Park!

Fresh Coast - Sharknado!

An absolute cracker of a game! Coast and Sharknado met the previous week, last of the regular season, with a little less on the line. Coast already had their top seed secured while Sharknado badly needed a win to get in. Sharknado won 1-0, setting the stage for a big-time rematch.

Out the gate, Fresh Coast looked like an entirely different squad than the losing team who donned yellow and navy the preceding fixture. They pushed tempo early, relying on their three-headed hydra up front - Ryan Schneider, Luke Dunn, and Jordan Tennis to create chances. On several occasions it looked like a lead was immanent but Sharknado keeper Matt Burks kept his team level.

Near intermission, Sharknado began to find their short-passing rhythm, which they do better than any other team in the division. Always looking for striker Josh Semerene they created a couple half-chances but never really threatened net. At the break, it remained nil-nil.

The quality of play and intensity ratcheted up another couple notches after the break. It was an incredible game to watch! I overheard substitutes talking about it being one of the best games they'd ever played in. Players getting ready for the following match were captivated. Fresh Coast and Sharknado put everything they had into the game and it showed.

The second half started off as the first half ended; with both teams creating chances. There didn't seem like much between the two squads. It took a moment of individual skill to turn the tie. Coast winger, Benny Chavers, one of the best players on any CFRS team slipped between two defenders, just inside the box. The ball rolled ahead, harmlessly into the hands of keeper Burks, but a sharp whistle caused momentary chaos. The call - penalty!

Ryan Schneider buried the subsequent spot kick and that was basically it. Sharknado failed to muster enough late chances to really threaten Coast's lead.

Final: Coast 1 - 0 Sharknado!

August 3rd, it's all on the line as top seed Fresh Coast take on second seeded FC United at Toyota Park, home of the Chicago Fire. Both teams have played in championship games at Toyota before; United won last year's summer league and Coast came up a goal short last fall. This should be one for the ages. Get your popcorn ready!
