Undocumented Students experience many hardships in their educational journey. The UC System demonstrates support and motivation for “dreamers” to achieve in higher education with grants and scholarships provided by the universities.
This is an example of the perspectives of undocumented students who had the fear of sharing their status with others. It is significant for all undocumented students to be proud of who they are and know they are not alone. There are. many undocumented students everywhere, including UC Davis. All UC campuses have many undocumented students with resources such as offices, clubs, organizations, and programs such as UC Berkeley.
Furthermore, the UDHR provides students with the rights set forward in their document. For example, Article 2 in the UDHR states, “Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion.” In other words, undocumented students have the right to learn, to go to school, to work towards a degree, and pursue academic goals for their future. Similarly, all students regardless of their status have those major rights. The rights for US Citizens may be different; however, the most crucial rights are still available for undocumented students and they should use that as a positive form of motivation.
Students reveal their undocumented status with others at different times. Regardless of the time, students should seek a place where they are comfortable to reveal their status and feel positive in a welcoming environment.
