Lone’er Kavanagh drops Brandon Royval on a pull counter as Royval overcommits on the left hand in the 2nd. Royval adjusts in the 3rd, baiting the same pull counter and using his read hand to parry the returning right hand and countering with the hook.
Probably my favorite tactical adjustment from last night’s card.

I do not know what it is about Pimblett that makes all these guys think shooting in is the smartest thing you can do. Grappling is the one thing that Paddy has an elite game in. I don't know if they just see this massive dude willing to throw shots back and think " i got to close distance and get him down" or what but BSD was so predictable. Shoots as soon as Pimblett hits the fence. Pimblett defends and then locks up a guillotine. There's some rolling about but ultimately BSD goes out.
Brandon Royval submits Lone'er Kavanagh in the 3rd round!

God where to start. Royval started off nice and measured. Was pressuring Kavanagh a bit but mostly just using feints and ranged attacks to rack up points and keep Lone'er guessing. Then he took him down to end the 1st. Just a good vet round. In round 2, Royval was pushing Kavanagh back again. With Lone'er outside the black line, he throws a 1-2 and Kavanagh pull counters, dropping a huge right hand that sends Royval spiraling. Royval goes down and has to fight off a ton of GnP and top control effort from Kavanagh before he's able to get back to his feet. He eventually does recover but does get tagged a few times really hard again before the 2nd ends.
And then Royval baited Kavanagh into attempting that pull counter right hand again only to drop a beautiful hook on him. Fav move of the night. Kavanagh does manage to hurt Royval as he tries to capitalize but Royval manages to shoot and get Lone'er down. Royval goes for a series of arm triangle attempts as Kavanagh twists and turns. Eventually Kavanagh gives up his back and Royval is able to fight hands until he can lock up the RNC.
FOTN thus far. Just a tremendous effort for both men. Royval gets back in the winner column after a series of back to back losses. Lone'er gets his 2nd loss and likely goes back down the pecking order, which honestly would be good for him. Get him in there with like a Tim Elliott or Tagir Ulanbekov.
Damian Pinas KOs Cesar Almeida in the 1st round!
God, what a win for Pinas. Almeida might not be great shakes as an MMA fighter but he's a tough vet with an extensive kickboxing background and hadn't been stopped in MMA yet. And Pinas did it on the feet. Lovely right hand counter to a naked inside leg kick in the open guard. Almeida too close and in range for the return cross. Pinas looked pretty solid thru this one too. Maybe going a touch too fast (threw 3 straight body kicks at one point when Almeida went southpaw and then immediately threw 3 straight leg kicks when Almeida switched to orthodox) but was able to find his way into the fight. Only 24 years old and seems to have a good head on him with those physical and athletic gifts.
