Joe was setting a really high pace but his lunging was going to get him in troubled against a big puncher like Figueiredo. Lunges in and knocks heads with Figueiredo. Big cut opens up on the forehead. Almost immediately tries to circle away only to get caught by a right cross from Figueiredo.

Felicia Spencer stops Zarah Fairn in the 1st!

Ya gotta hand it to Spencer. 3 fights in the UFC and she has not dissapointed. 2 first round finish wins and went 3 hard rounds with Cris Cyborg (even if she lost all 3). Was able to get Fairn down along the fence and just pounded on her from mount til they stopped the fight. Really liked the elbows.

We’ll see if she or Anderson gets the title fight against Nunes next but both women showed out tonight like they were supposed to.

Joseph Benavidez vs Jussier Formiga 2

There are a handful of people who are just given opportunity after opportunity to fight for titles, even when their claim to it is quite week. The Urijah Fabers and Holly Holms of the world never have never seemed further than one win away from another title opportunity. But there also guys like Joseph Benavidez (28-5), fighters who have earned each and every opportunity they have been given. Even when they have come up short before. 

I feel 100% comfortable saying that Joseph Benavidez is the best fighter to have never won a major title. 80% of his losses are to two fighters on the shortlist of greatest fighters of all time. He’s beaten most of the best fighters at 125 and 135 across different eras, including current bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo. His game has somehow only continued to have evolved in the later part of his career.

Benavidez will get one more opportunity to put that gold belt across his waist. He heads to Norfolk, Virginia when he faces off with Deiveson Figueiredo (17-1) in the main event of UFC on ESPN+ 27 this Saturday (Feb. 29).
