UFC on Fox 30: Saturday, July 28th
Joanna Jedrzejczyk takes UD over Tecia Torres.
Torres’ entire gameplan should have been 1) push Jedrzejczyk into cage 2) disengage 3) throw like 5-6 strikes. That’s it. That was how she was going to win this fight if she did.
She was never going to win a prolonged clinch battle with Joanna because Joanna has some of the best TDD in the sport and is a phenomenal clinch striker/ She was never going to win at distance just because of range and how much Jedrzejczyk throws in volume by comparison. The game plan seemed obvious.
Whoever came up with the game-plan for Torres to try to push Jedrzejczyk against the fence for 3 rounds in search of a takedown should be fired.
DC stating JJ isn’t comfortable in the clinch when she’s one of the best clinch fighters on the women’s side of the sport is bizarre.
Islam Makhachev armbars Kajan Johnson in the 1st
Simple work from Makhachev. Gets Johnson against the cage, takes him down, passes to mount and attacks with the armbar as Johnson tries to stop the oncoming GnP. Great win for Makhachev. Bad for the pacing of this card.
