JOHN KEEL'S FLYING SAUCER SUBCULTURE - UFO Researcher and Monster-Hunting Adventure Writer John Keel (1930-2009) penned many paranormal-related books, most notably being the famous cryptid-classic "The Mothman Prophecies" (1975). While generally considered to be a visible proponent of inquiry into strange "Forteana," Keel also acted as a vocal critic of the very sensationalized culture that he was immersed in. John Keel's controversial "The Flying Saucer Subculture" (published in 1994) re-prints a scathing critique of the Culture of Ufology from an article Keel previously wrote in 1973 for "The Journal of Popular Culture" (published in 1975). The 90s booklet includes additions that convey Keel's increasing dissatisfaction with a field/culture that had come to be dominated by "fringe beliefs" and had continued to move away from the path of rational inquiry - demonstrating that there has been little progress over the years. Decades since the booklet's printing, Keel's critical take on the UFO Subculture still holds weight - and relevance - to many modern critics that contend that the field still has yet to progress beyond being a disaffected belief-culture and exploitative fringe cottage-industry. Well worth a read and consideration. #StrangeTravels #MichaelHuntington #JohnKeel #MothmanProphecies #Mothman #FlyingSaucerSubculture #UFOCulture #CulturalStudies #Fortean #Forteana #UFO #UFOs #UFOHistory #UFOLore #UFOResearch #UFOReform
