Bigfoot Hunting Banned
You can't legally hunt Bigfoot in this Pennsylvania town. However, Bigfoot hunting enforcement is unlikely.
From the essay:
You can go looking, but any attempts to harm the mysterious cryptid known as Bigfoot inside the boundaries of Derry Borough will be met with the full force of the law.
Mayor Grant Nicely made the proclamation at the Aug. 13 borough council meeting. It also names Bigfoot as the official cryptid of Derry Borough.
“Whereas the presence of a rare, mysterious being known as Bigfoot or Sasquatch would be an endangered species, and any willful harm done to the creature would be punishable under commonwealth law,” Nicely read. “Be it resolved … declare our borough as a sanctuary for this mysterious species; and hunting Bigfoot or Sasquatch with the intent to harm or capture is hereby prohibited.”
THE HORROR IN ENFIELD - Enfield, Illinois (1970 population 764) - On the dark night of April 25th, 1973 a “strange creature” was allegedly encountered by the folks living along these railroad tracks. It was described by shocked local witnesses as being a “three-legged mutant monstrosity” with fierce claws and teeth! This bizarre “horror” reportedly attacked a local boy, terrorized neighborhood pets, and was even fired upon by one frightened homeowner as it tried to claw it’s way into a home! Bizarre “clawed” footprints were found by investigators and police along these rail lines - the likes of which had not been seen. Echoes of horrific screams, presumably from the mutant beast, pierced the night air and were heard by many frightened people throughout the darkened town. Searches for the monster lasted days and involved so many people (running around with guns at night), that they were soon curtailed for public safety. What became of the enigmatic cryptid is not known - it disappeared in the following days and has not been seen since. And, to this day, no one has yet have solved the mystery of the creature that came to be known as the Enfield Horror. We can only guess and wonder. This bigfoot trap is located in Rogue River–Siskiyou National Forest in Jackson County, Oregon. It was designed and erected in 1974 to capture the legendary sasquatch that was said to roam the forest. It was originally built by the North American Wildlife Research Team. NAWRT kept the trap baited with animal carcasses but it only caught bears.
However, since it never successfully caught bigfoot, the trap was abandoned in the 1980s. It began to rot away in the forest until 2006, when the United States Forest Service started to repair it. It was brought back to life under the "Passport in Time" program, which is a popular volunteer program that works on heritage programs like building preservation and artifact care. Since it was abandoned by its creators, the trap is now maintained and protected by the United States Forest Service as a sort of tourist attraction.
I got to stay in the House of Hodags while on vacation in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. It was such an amazing way to experience the origin city of the Hodag. I saw so many incredible things while there. I even got to hold a 1903 book written by Gene Shepard himself! I might post more here if anyone’s interested :)
I have a lot of pictures on my Cryptozoology FaceBook page. I recently just hit 80,000 followers over there!
Unravel the mystery of the Mothman phenomenon in Point Pleasant. Is it a creature or just a case of mistaken identity with sandhill cranes?
Mothman vs Sandhill Cranes: Myth or Reality?
The Mothman is still not as famous as Bigfoot. Further, the sandhill crane theory for Mothman doesn't address everything needed to be the Mothman answer.
From the description:
In the late 1960s, Point Pleasant, West Virginia, became the center of the Mothman legend, linked to strange sightings and the tragic collapse of the Silver Bridge in 1967. Theories about the Mothman’s identity range from misidentified birds to supernatural warnings, influencing global folklore and popular culture ever since.

THE ENFIELD HORROR - On the night of April 25th, 1973 - in the small Illinois farm town of Enfield - a series of bizarre encounters with a horrifying creature began. Seen mostly by townspeople living along the railroad tracks, this three-legged monstrosity attacked a young boy, terrorized pets, and was even fired upon by a frightened homeowner at close range. Sightings persisted, however, and tracks were soon found by investigators and police. Armed search parties hunted the creature for weeks, and saw nothing - but many did report that they heard the Horror's eerie scream. Noted Fortean writer John Keel searched for the monster, as did famed cryptozoologist Loren Coleman. Eventually the reports ceased and the monster vanished back into the darkness - never to be seen again. What was the Enfield Horror? Alien Creature? Inter-dimensional Beast? Feral Kangaroo? Theories abound, but the strange creature's true nature remains a mystery.
