My UFP/x directors have always said that you can just do the choreography and be clean, but to actually dance and show the audience how much you enjoy it is what really matters. Out of all the things they’ve taught us throughout the season, that was exactly the one thing I felt on stage last night. For the first time in awhile, I actually felt like I was really dancing.
When UFPx and I were on deck, my nerves were skyrocketing. Before every performance, it wasn’t uncommon for me to feel nervous. But this was different. We worked our asses off for months to perform this set at The Warmup. Countless hours of rehearsal for just a four-minute set makes it mean something to you. So as soon as I heard the first second of the music, I told myself, “You’ve worked so hard for this. So it’s time for you to just enjoy it.” And what an amazing feeling it was to do that.
Now, I get it.
In the middle of the season, I had a MRI done for my left knee. It’s given me numerous problems for years and I needed to know why. It turns out, that I didn’t just one have tear, but TWO tears in my meniscus. So I had to make a decision. Get knee surgery resulting with a month recovery and completely miss UFP’s The Warmup or just take the chance and be apart of the show. And you know what? I don’t regret the decision I made because last night was exactly what I needed after the rough time I was going through. So I’m eternally grateful for the opportunity I was given to perform. It really was the perfect ending to the season. UFP Season 5 will always be my favorite.
A big thank you to our directors Bo/Megan/Karlo for dealing with our shit and always pushing us to be better so that we learn to never settle.
So with that being said,
It makes me sad to say that I won’t be part of the first half of UFP’s Season 6. Being that I graduated from college this past May, it’s time for me to get my life together. Time for me to get that big girl job and stop avoiding responsibility. My body also needs a break and needs recovery. So I’ll be having that knee repair surgery in order for me to consistently work on my fitness and health to (maybe) be ready for season 6.5.
