I'm working a Pride Fest tomorrow and I'm afraid of two things: homophobic/transphobic violence at the event, and this obnoxious self-proclaimed Pagan LGBTQI+ 'clairvoyant' who thinks he can mansplain me to myself. We've only met 2x, and his M.O. is asking what seems like friendly questions, nodding sagely while you reply, and then HOLISTICALLY NEGGING YOU-- calling out your smallest turns of phrase and body language "tells" that only he can interpret. ("Isn't it just SO interesting that you just said/did....") Example: he talked about code-switching as a positive life skill, likening it to "taking dips in different rivers throughout the day". I agreed, remarking that I did exactly that every day in my customer service job, using a different communication style with patrons than I do with friends and family. Suddenly Mr. Medium was informing me that he'd already picked up on my habit of "speaking from a place of inauthenticity" and "hiding behind masks" which luckily HE could see right through. Then he suggested I come in for a full reading where we'd "get to the root" of my self-deception and spiritual dishonesty and hopefully identify "all the ways you hold yourself back".
