Falling Apart Quilt 70″ x 70″ 2020 finally finished this beast, which ended up in a much more extreme place when where it started. I love doing the 9 patch star pattern and have made several pretty and harmouis quilts with it, but I did want to do something else with this one. I started it last fall and wanted to do something with the stars losing parts, so the first star is complete, but the second one is missing one point, the thrid one is missing two points, etc. until there is only one point floating in the negative space. that all went according to plan, but then 2020 really go going and it went kinda off the rails, all the broken parts ended up in the border (which took forever because doing “random” piece work takes so much more time and planning then “on purpose” piecework) and the phrase “please scream inside your heart” needed to go in there as well, so that happened. then with the stipping, I added lots of words and names and numbers around Covid, BLM and how I really feel about the super rich. it’s kinda awkward and ugly and that’s how I want it. so success! had to include the wind blowing it over in the final picture.
