It was past three in the morning, your boyfriend Mingi was still at work and you were sitting on the couch snuggled under a blanket. You had an uneasy feeling all night and your anxiety was slowly coming to a boil so you thought watching a movie would help you relax a little. You don’t know why you felt so uneasy, it wasn’t stormy out but when you went to take out the trash earlier in the evening there was an odd feeling in the air. There was a slight breeze causing the red and orange leaves to skip across the yard. No cars were out which was surprisingly considering how early in the evening it was. You rushed back into the house as being outside made you feel nervous. You made sure you locked both the front and the back door and locked all the window and closed the curtains so it was dark and nothing could see in.
While you were watching the movie you thought you heard noises coming from outside. At first you figured the wind picked up or maybe there was night critters wandering around. But you kept hearing strange noises. You slowly rose up off the couch grabbing the remote off the little table next to the couch and you turned the volume down on the tv. You listened closely trying to think logically about what the sound could be.
A loud crash caused you to jump, completely wrapping the blanket around you. You heard the dogs next door start barking and heard a few more crashes before you heard something that sounded like glass breaking. You started to panic. Was someone in the house? You frantically searched for your phone in the couch cushion and shakily dialed your boyfriend. Of course you probably should’ve called the cops but you automatically dialed for Mingi.
Tears started to form in your water line hearing the line ring and ring on the other end. You heard more loud noises and you thought you heard shuffling or voices so you stood up but your feet didn’t move. You were frozen in fear. “Hey princess what’s up?” Your boyfriend Mingi finally answered. You choked up trying to speak through the tears. “M-Mingi I-I think someone broke in I- Mingi please come home I’m scared p-please Mingi.” You blabbered through the phone. Mingi’s tone of voice changed as soon as he heard the fear in your voice as well as automatically dropping the sweet pet name. “Y/n listen to me please. Listen, turn the volume on the tv up as loud as you can then I need you to quickly and quietly find somewhere in the house to hide. Under the bed, in the closet, in the basement anywhere you can find and I need you to be quiet once you’re there. Do not make a peep. Then hang up and turn off your phone okay?” Mingi’s voice was calm for the most part but you could sense he was fearful of your life.
“Y-you want me to hang up?” You asked while trying to think of somewhere in the house you could hide. “Yes y/n, hang up and turn the phone off. I’m going to call the police. I’m like 30 minutes out the police will get there before me.” You started to shake in fear. You felt your feet slowly moving but you were just pacing in front of the tv. “B-but Mingi I don’t want to hang up please don’t make me hang up.” You sobbed louder into the phone. What if you hang up and get murdered? “Mingi, can’t I just stay on the line with you? Please? I n-need to hear y-you voice please.” You pleaded to your boyfriend. “Y/n, my darling, my love please,” there was a crack in his voice before he spoke up again. He sounded like he was trying to fight back the tears. “Y/n baby listen, if you are hiding and someone hears that phone make any noise or light up you’re a goner.” You heard your boyfriend choke up causing more tears to well up and run down your cheeks. “Please y/n. I need to call the police now. Hang up and hide and don’t make any noises don’t even move you understand me?” You jumped again as another sound that you swore was coming from the kitchen made you choke on your own scream. It was a life or death situation now and you needed to do everything you could to keep yourself safe until the authorities could arrive. You let out a shaky sigh your anxiety shooting through the roof. When you spoke up it was faint but Mingi could still hear your small and shaky voice. “I love you Mingi.” You held the phone close to your ear trying to hear his breathing, the car racing down the road anything to tie you to your boyfriend before god knows what happens to you. “I love you so much more baby.” You smiled a bit before hanging up.
You figured there was a closet somewhere upstairs you could hide in so you made your way up there but you couldn’t move that fast as you were currently wearing the bunny slippers that Mingi had bought you for Christmas last year. Pink and fluffy and super comfy but they weren’t made for speed. You hesitated but only for a little bit as you clearly heard voices this time and saw a light coming from the kitchen that you knew for sure wasn’t the kitchen light. You took your slippers off and set them in front of the couch. Trying to steady your breathing you tried to clear your mind. You raced up the stairs trying to be as quiet as possible. Luckily the entire upstairs was carpeted so it helped decrease the noise. When you made it to the hallway by the bathroom you thought as logically as you could. The bathroom has a bathtub with a curtain and a cabinet that is not big enough for you to hide in. You won’t fit under the sink either. You ran further down the hallway passing by the hall closet. Closets are the worst place to hide, the murders always go for the closets. You wondered if you should’ve gone to the basement instead or in the storage space under the stairs.
You could hear loud noises coming from downstairs, shuffling and what sounded like glass breaking. You tried not to panic but it was so hard. You were alone in your house and you might end up being murdered. You were terrified. Your heart was beating so fast and so loud and your ears were ringing. You hear footsteps getting louder like someone was coming up stairs. You held your screams and ran to you and Mingi’s shared bedroom. You pondered over where to hide in the bedroom. What if you shut the door? No that would make it obvious someone was in here. Could you fit under the bed fast enough? Murders check closets..what about escaping from the window? No you were on the second floor you’d rather not fall to your death. You peered out the window looking down at the neighborhood below. It looked so calm despite the chaos inside your house. You looked at the tree branches tapping on the window and wished that was the noise you heard and not intruders. Were they robbing you? Did they have guns or knifes? Were they gonna find you? And if they did would they hurt you or kidnap you? You feared for your life and you worried about your boyfriend. What if he came home to your dead body all mangled and bloody? You pushed those thoughts to the back of your mind.
Your phone rang almost making you scream. You read the name of the person calling seeing Mingi’s cute face and you quickly answered. “Mingi Mingi you called back.” You wanted to celebrate but you were still in danger. “Y/n I told you to turn the phone off I was testing to see if my call went through. Are you hiding?” You brought your fingers up to your mouth and began chewing on your nails. “I don’t know where to hide Mingi. Please tell me you’re almost home please I need you.” “Y/n where are you?” Mingi asked calmly, “the police are on their way I’m fifteen minutes out I’m driving as fast as I can. Please find somewhere to hide. Get in the closet in our bedroom.” He said. “But Mingi murderers always check in the closet.”
“Y/n please get in the closet and turn the phone off please.” Mingi interrupted you. Tears that had dried started to form again. What if the murders find you and kill you before the police arrive? What if they never find your body? “Mingi please please don’t make me hang up I don’t want to Mingi,” you choked on your tears, “I don’t wanna die Mingi.” You jumped again as you heard voices getting louder. “Mingi they’re coming, I’m gonna die!” You whisper screamed into the phone. You were having a panic attack at the most inconvenient time and your boyfriend was not there to help you. Maybe the murders could calm to down before they kill you. Your head was spinning as horrible scenarios flashed theough your head. It was a mix of Mingi’s voice and light shining from the hallway that snapped you back into reality. “Y/n do not argue with me I need you to get in the closet, hide behind the clothes and sit on the floor in a ball. You need to blend in behind the clothes, use anything in that closet to hide behind and I mean it when I say turn that phone off. Not on silent, completely off do you understand me. And do not make a peep don’t even move please. I love you.” Mingi ended the call and without another thought you raced to the closet quickly shutting it and pushing the clothes that were hung up aside so you could crouch on the floor behind them. Thank god there was some pretty big boxes in the closet that you could squeeze behind plus the clothes you felt pretty hidden. Your hands shook as you pulled out your phone holding the lock button down until it lit up. You saw your lockscreen, Mingi with that precious smile of his when you too went to the beach over the summer. If this was the last thing you saw before you died you would be relieved as long as you never met the eyes of the intruders. You slowly slid your finger across your phone screen, your vision becoming blurry as you prayed this picture of Mingi wouldn’t be the last time you saw him. The phone screen went black and you were shrouded in darkness.
You focused on your breathing. Just inhaling and exhaling trying to remain calm. You put yourself in your mind trying to remember any happy memory that could help calm you down. Your mind went to last Christmas, when Mingi gave you a box wrapped in shiny green wrapping, a pretty gold ribbon tied around it. You smile at him as he sat next to you on the couch. As you slowly tore the packaging open your memory poofed as you heard voices that were right in the bedroom. You heard rustling of furniture and what sounded like papers flying. Your breathing became uneven as you could feel a panic attack coming on. You forced yourself to go back to your happy memory.
When you opened the box a pair of pink fuzzy bunny slippers gazed up at you. The cutest little face and floppy ears. You turned to Mingi the biggest smile on your face. Mingi smiles back and opened his mouth to say something, “check the closet!” Your memory poofed again coming back to reality. Your last happy memory of your boyfriend was shattered as you saw a light shine in the closet. You felt less safe despite the clothes and boxes you were hiding behind. You covered your ears hearing your heart pounding out of your chest, your blood rising through your veins. You steadied your breathing as much as you could.
There was loud noises you heard above the noises of your heart beating and your breathing, voices shouting, what sounded like a gunshot and you couldn’t keep calm any longer so you screamed loudly, your hands covering your ears tears streaming down your cheeks. This was the end. You were going to die alone and without seeing Mingi ever again. The panic attack swallowing you whole as your body shook violently in fear.
You felt something touch you and your eyes shot open to see a light flash in your eyes blinding you. “Please! Please don’t kill me please I won’t tell anyone let me live please please!” You cried begging at the stranger with your hands up above your head. You tried your hardest to bring back that happy memory of Mingi and the slippers and the smells of Christmas morning but it wasn’t working.
“Miss this is the police. Are you hurt?” A stern voice called out from the other side of the light. You stopped yelling but your vision was still blurry. The officer helped you out of the closet pulling you to your feet. Your throat burned from yelling. The light was on in the hallway revealing to you all the officers in your room. From the corner of your eye you saw the red and blue lights of the police car that was probably parked along the street. There was people you assumed were the FBI doing their job getting prints or whatever you really couldn’t focus on anything.
That was until through blurry vision you saw your precious boyfriend, the love of your life Jeon Mingi run into the room a look of mixed emotions on his face and those fuzzy bunny slippers a vice grip in his hands. You stood there stunned. Was he really here or did your mind think of a rescue situation while you were dying from blood loss.
“Oh my god y/n my love you’re okay thank god!” Mingi rushes to you wrapping his arms around you his head cradled around yours like a swan. He held you tight, so tight you heard his heartbeat. You felt his touch, you heard his breathing and you knew your were alive and safe. You heard him crying and saw tears stream down his cheeks as he pulled away from you to look at you. His hands a tight grip on your arms. You felt frozen again trying to register everything that happened. Everything was fuzzy you were still in a daze but you felt Mingi’s warm touch and you heard the officers talking.
Mingi’s holding onto you like he’ll lose you again as he speaks with the officers. Something about the intruders escaped but the officers will do everything they can to find them and figure out what they stole and while the FBI finishes up a few officers will stay the night to keep an eye on the place.
You felt a little more at ease knowing that you had protection but you weren’t comfortable sleeping in the same room that had just housed a crime but the cops were downstairs so the couch wasn’t an option. Mingi reassured you that he would be here with you all night and that he would keep you safe now that he was home. You were still freightened. You snuggled into Mingi the covers wrapped around both of you.
“Mingi, what about the window?” You quietly asked. The window had a board nailed across it. The cops said the intruders probably broke the window and scaled down the tree to escape. Your mind was still buzzing with everything. You had no idea what all was stolen and how damaged the house was. Mingi pulled you close to him his hand softly petting your hair.
“Don’t worry princess. In the morning we’ll assess the rest of the damage, the cops with talk to us more about what we can do and I’ll call some people to fix the locks and set up some cameras around the house and property. We’ll be alright.” Mingi pressed a kiss to your forehead looking at you lovingly. Tears started to form again as your hands found his shirt and gripped it tight in your hands. “Hey now, it’s gonna be okay. We’ll figure everything out. If you feel safer not living here we can move someplace else.”
“I was so scared Mingi,” you wanted to bury your face in his chest. “I-I didn’t know where to hide, what to do. I had a panic attack that I was sure would get me killed Mingi I was so scared I thought I was gonna die. You blabbered and mumbled more all your emotions coming out as you told Mingi everything you went through while he wasn’t here. “I just wanted you to come home I needed you I wanted you here with me so badly I was so scared Mingi.” You kept repeating yourself as Mingi continued to console you. He held onto you tighter, his hand slowly running through your hair relaxing you a bit.
“I’m so sorry y/n. I’m sorry I wasn’t here sooner. I’m sorry I was out so late and I’m so so sorry you were so scared. I don’t want you to ever feel like that again.” Mingi then cupped your face with one hand and pressed several light kisses to your lips and all over your face. Kissing your cheeks and nose and forehead and wiping your tears away with his thumb. “Get some sleep y/n. I’ll be here, if you need me please please wake me up okay? I’m here for you. I love you.”
With Mingi’s comforting words and his body wrapped around yours you felt more protected as you slowly drifted off the sleep your body welcoming the warmth and comfort of Mingi and the sheets.
