In reference to your heatwave warning post: As someone who lives in a country notorious for hot AND/OR humid weather in Summer, I absolutely agree with you on how important is it to spread awareness about this.
Yes, it is Winter where I am atm (plus most of our houses are designed with the opposite problem - they (usually) dissipate heat well in summer, but they barely retain it in winter which means it's super cold but I digress).
However, during really high Summer temperatures (and especially the heatwaves here), I can confirm that I've seen TV weather broadcasts put out warnings to avoid exercising outside or going outside without appropriate protection (suncream, sunnies, shaded areas, etc.).
So I appreciate you talking about this.
(And to those who keep dismissing/downplaying how severe the heatwave is forecasted to be in UK: Please don't.)
anon, thank you so so so much for adding credence to what we've all been saying about these heatwaves!! it's extremely validating to hear it from someone who lives elsewhere and deals with such hot temperatures 💖 i mentioned the 2022 UK heatwaves in that post, and that was the first time the Met Office (our weather/climate service) had ever put out a red weather warning for extreme heat!! that weather warning means:
the weather is extremely bad and poses a risk to life
travel and power are likely to be disrupted: you should not travel under any circumstances
you must take immediate action to protect yourself from harm
you must follow the advice of local emergency services, as widespread damage is likely
thankfully we're only at an amber alert right now (which means be prepared, potential power cuts and risk to life) and it's not supposed to get much worse, but ohhh it's bad right now. there's pressure sitting so heavily in my face, and it's so hot outside that opening the door is like opening an oven!! the air is so thick and inescapable, and i'm up north: my heart goes out to poor people in places like London, which must be suffocating 💔
