I stayed glued to the water until late yet saw nothing all night so when I awoke Saturday morning around 6 am still with no signs In front of me I decided to wind in and go and see if there was any activity at first light. Whilst I was at the opposite end of the lake on the back of the wind I heard a fish crash out followed by ripples emanating from under some snags. I returned to retrieve my gear and as I was pushing past the guy next door he was playing a fish so I stopped and offered some assistance, whilst wondering if I was making the right move he netted the fish which we didn’t weigh but guessed it was low double. I pushed on round the back and flicked three little bags of crushed bait out attached to my traps and sat back and watched the water. When the evening came it was light enough to see still but too dark for the gulls so decided to reset the traps and put a few handfuls of bait over each rod covering the channel between my bank and the island. I awoke Sunday morning and undone the door so I could see out of the brolly and put the kettle on, whilst I was watching the water my middle rod let out a few bleeps and the swinger pulled up tight. I leapt on it immediately and lifted into a good weight, after a short battle I slipped the net under a big fish just as day light was breaking. Once I put the rod down I lifted the net and I looked down at a very wide common sulking in the mesh folds. One of the members came to assist me with the photos and the weigh in at 44lbs exactly.
