The British Council in collaboration with ‘Make in India’ launched the UK India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) which aims at enhancing educational links between India and the UK. The ‘Make in India’ part of this initiative portrays how India is seeking to regain its mark as the manufacturing capital of the world. IndoGenius- an organization based out of New Delhi has been delivering this initiative for the past few years, and continues to do so in a remarkable way.
Students who participated in current session of UKIERI got to experience a diverse India, a blend of businesses belonging to MSME sector, on their own rather through the camera. Their repertoire counts policy makers in Delhi, rural artisans from Rajasthan, high-tech factories in Gujarat, entrepreneurs from Dharavi (known as one of the largest slums in the world), and manufacturing brands in Mumbai- Imaginarium being one of them.
Imaginarium hosted a group of students from UKIERI Study India Programme 2015 at its headquarters in Mumbai. The group consisted of designers from jewellery and fashion industry, engineers, and management trainees.
A session in the Imaginarium Academy saw them discussing and debating on where is the technology headed in its respective vertical, towards the end of which the students concluded the thought provocative concept of ‘designing without constraints.’
Amazed, intrigued, and thirsty-to-know-more, is exactly how one can describe the way they felt post a briefing on what is Imaginarium’s role and vision to create awareness regarding 3D printing in India, and the future of additive manufacturing as a whole.
Well, they definitely got a sneak peek into that, post a tour of the shop floor and learning about how this technology is affecting 30 different verticals. Getting a firsthand experience at creating something of their own was an added advantage.
The visit to Imaginarium changed the students' perspective on technology, manufacturing, and the future of Making.
