Hey ! So my folks ordered an ukulele and it will be arriving in a few days and I'm really excited even though I have no experience with playing instruments lol . So I've been listening to your covers and bb cosmic butter is beautiful , could you gimme some heads-up on what to expect as a beginner and some tips ? ily kween <3

yes okay so.

for beginners I REALLY recommend this youtube channel called “Bernadette Teaches Music” ..she even has a first ukulele lesson and a thirty day challenge to cover the basics.

other YouTube channels u can try as u make progress :

-one music school(v comprehensive)

-elise ecklund(song specific tutorials)

-Abby Lyons (song specific tutorials)

-U can UKE

-Ricky Somborn

-the ukulele teacher (intermediate level stuff + songs as well)

also when you’re initially trying to play certain chords. your finger WILL hurt and sometimes the strings may even get muted so. best advice for that is to try and arch your hand upwards and rest your thumb firmly at the back of the neck

one more problem I faced was to co ordinate your singing , strumming patterns and the chord changes together. so what u should do is. first try single down strums on each chord as per the count and then slowly incorporate the strumming patterns..no don’t sing after this..only hum the tune..then after you’ve mastered the process and it’s well into your muscle memory only then start singing.

also if u get the hang of the strumming pattern DDU UDU and the chords Am , F , C , G ...u can already play most songs at the basic level after transposing!!

Someone or anyone gimme beginner ukulele tips

For uke players who are like desperately trying to find strumming patterns...I used to do that when I started and believe me when I say it doesn’t work like that. You have to “feel” the rhythm and the pattern will come to you. Just focus and really deeply listen to the song and the beat. If you have enough musical ability to learn chords you have enough musical ability to “feel” the song and intuitively strum. Just trust yourself!

okay i have a concert size ukulele ,,which i feel is the right starting point cause its right in the middle of everything. not too tiny , not too big and the sound is neither way too sweet nor too low.

id say dont invest too much into your first one,,and these youtube ukulele recommendations are always showing such expensive ones. i ordered mine online off a pretty reasonable price and it sounds amazing.

as for some brand recs - flight , enya , kadence , lanikai etc.

If you are wondering how Tyler Joseph freaking strums his ukulele like the god he is while standing, he tucks his ukulele into is arm. Do not try holding it out in front of you, angle it a bit. I just learned the hard way and almost had falling ukulele problems.... Anyway, the way he does it also makes the strumming easier in general.
