Someone or anyone gimme beginner ukulele tips
as I was walking up the street, the steeple bells were ringing and as I sat down at Mary’s feet the sweet sweet birds were singing
four small songs with ukulele (feat. bonus dog content)
For uke players who are like desperately trying to find strumming patterns...I used to do that when I started and believe me when I say it doesn’t work like that. You have to “feel” the rhythm and the pattern will come to you. Just focus and really deeply listen to the song and the beat. If you have enough musical ability to learn chords you have enough musical ability to “feel” the song and intuitively strum. Just trust yourself!
Still working on that ukulele! First bit of Roads to Moscow by Al Stewart. I’m finally starting to understand that damn E chord! I never thought I would see the day!
Ukulele times
Nice to have to stop ukulele playing for the night because I'm getting a new callus on my thumb from stretching for a lot of new chords. Means I must be working hard :) Take that, Bmaj7, Abm, Ab7, Bb, Bbm (difficult to bar those first strings)... and of course my nemesis, E! No matter how many times I practice that mofo it's still horrible. Worked on today: - Steven Universe extended theme - Still Not Giving Up (Steven goddammit way to make me cry at how adorable and brave and precious you are). Can't play it at full speed yet but starting to get those chord changes down. - Coffee and TV (Blur) - great song to practice chunking on And of course continuing practicing some of my favs. Maintaining consistent rhythm, especially when singing (or playing a fucking E chord), is my biggest struggle. And at some point I want to start being able to play fingerstyle stuff mixed in with chords instead of one or the other, or sing along to fingerstyle stuff, but that will be another day. My normal finger calluses are actually sore on the strings now, and that thumb has gotten tired too. It's a good feeling :)
Feeling a bit nostalgic for Bioshock Infinite....
Working on Can't Buy Me Love today :) F7 is hard to transition to but I will keep practicing!
Resources for Learning Ukulele
Once you’ve mastered all those preschool songs in my Beginner Uke for Preschool Teachers series, you may find you’ve fallen in love with ukulele and want to learn more. Here’s my approach: Most mornings when I’m playing on my ukulele, I think of a song I want to work on, go to YouTube and search for “[song title] ukulele” and then work through the tutorials I find. I’ve also used the book Daily…
