Hi I just got back in to UL and I'm really enjoying it! I've only read the comic so far, I need more spoons than I currently have to be able to read it lol
Currently, my favorite part is the lore. I love the little world you've built. Like I'm thinking of using it as an au for fan fiction that currently only exists in my head.
My question is, are their any other species of giants other than the ones you've shared here, extinct or otherwise?
(I know about wood giants, mountain giants, cave giants, trolls, and the ones that don't technically have a name but start with a k)
Aw thank you for reading! I’m glad you like it! Tag me if you end up writing a fan fiction I’m curious! 👀
As for giant species, here’s a brief list:
Wood Giants: Eli’s species. They range from 13-15 feet tall, and have a human camouflage that they can maintain for about 3 hours at a time.
Mountain Giants: Averaging around 28 feet tall, these giants prey on smaller species of giants and humans. They can camouflage into the mountainside, taking on the external appearance of stone.
Cave giants: Averaging around 14 feet tall, these giants live in caves and sometimes even sewer systems in cities. They are able to contort their bodies in impossible ways to navigate narrow passageways of caves and tunnels. Their camouflage ability is invisibility for brief periods of time. This type of giant is actually reptilian in origin and they have a sensitive feathery plumage from head to tail that helps them navigate the darkness, and bioluminescent markings that they can dim at will. They communicate using clicking noises but can sometimes learn to mimic speech as well.
Marshland giants: Ranging from 10-13 feet tall, these giants are a hybrid between wood giants and wood nymphs, and they have the ability to turn to wood for camouflage. They’re mischievous and travel in groups. Their tears are harvested for alchemy, and can be used to view a magical creature’s true form.
Snow giants: Very rare giants that have only been witnessed a handful of times in person. They are similar to cave giants in physique, appearing more beast-like than humanoid with a bear or wolf-like face and a long tail, and their body is covered in a thick fur coat that blends into snowy terrains. They are believed to be around 15-18 feet in height, and have not exhibited any sign of human like intelligence from the few encounters Legion members have had with them.
Sea giants: Sea giants grow their entire lifespan, but they are generally around 18 feet tall from head to toe, or 28 feet long from head to tail. They are able to mimic the colors of their surroundings to blend into the sea better. It’s theorized that these may be hybrids of wood giants and sirens (merpeople), which evolved at the time that the wood giants began to flee Europe during the rise of the Unseen Legion.
Trolls: Range from 14-20 feet tall. They’re curious creatures that are fascinated with collecting hoards of human technology. Their skin is stone-like in texture and extremely tough except in direct contact with sunlight. They exist in a wide range of climates, with their tough skin and fur protecting them from both cold and heat.
In addition to the giants in the UL universe, there’s also faeries, nymphs, vampires, werewolves, sirens, and burrowlings, and I’m on the fence about whether I should make nagas canon in the UL universe as well. Dragons also existed in the past, but they’re known to be extinct.
