I had a dream about Ulrich finding out about the Alt-right movement and spending his time doxxing neonazis and honestly if that isnt character development I don't know what is.
Summary: An original piece done a long time ago by my friend RJ about our OCs Arthur and Ulrich. Set in a WWII au where the axis occupied England to some degree? Idk they wrote this when we were still in highschool, but it’s still so chilling I have to post it. I really appreciate anyone who takes the time to give it a read. I’ll probably post some of the other stuff that adds some context to this piece at a later date.
OFC posted with permission of the original author RJ. Slight editing done by me.
Warnings: War type violence, Nazis being assholes (i mean it is a WWII setting) uhm mentions of rape/ violence against women, Character death. If you think i need to add something please let me know.
Chaos.
He thought of pure, utter chaos.
The General gazed at the horrible sight of what was left of a once thriving city. His men trembled at the site of smoldering buildings, murdered corpses, and the horrid aroma of decomposing matter. The men were frightened; as was Arthur.
“Alright, men!” Arthur hollered, raising his loaded gun up to his shoulder. “We all must stick together, you hear? We don’t want anymore men missing in action…”
The soldiers nodded in agreement, following their general with much concentration and anxiety. They all grouped together, frightened by new sights of mothers slit by the throat; their children in their arms with no faces. The sight terrified more of the soldiers, causing them to want to run away. Some actually departed from the group, the others lingered on.
It was the fatigue and the gruesome nausea that eventually took the best of the soldiers later on.
“Quiet!” Arthur screamed over their moans, stiffening his grip on his gun. “Do you want to cause a riot?! Start a battle?! The enemy will hear! Hush your mouths!”
The privates mumbled; complained about improper care; that they must search for something that “did not exist”.
The treacherous silence stretched beyond the small army; the horrifying feeling of the midnight air chilling their bones ran down each of their backs. The reaction of horrible panic was created once they heard the apprehensious noise of a distinct German rifle.
“Get down!” Arthur quietly commanded, dropping down to a mound of burnt rubble.
The soldiers did not hesitate to repeat the same action their general performed.
The guns were persistent, as if they were getting rid of hostages. There were shrieks of terror in the distance; demanding roars of the German language called from the stretched land.
After many agonizing minutes, the allied privates and the horrified General raised from the pile of debris.
“Quickly,” Arthur muttered to his troops, commanding them to go forward. Many marched quickly to the noise, while others decided to be left behind.
The soldiers moved on quietly; nothing but the rubble under their boots was heard.
Arthur’s expression remained fearless and determined; their hearts each raced with on-coming adrenaline racing in their veins.
Arthur’s face froze with fright once he eyed the German soldiers slaughtering the unwanted civilians of the deserted and liberated ghetto.
His body froze with stifling anger once he saw Ulrich’s mighty grip on a young woman’s long, braided hair; his smile bright, his expression hungry.
The soldiers eyed the current situation: The German soldiers held many of the civilians hostage, many of them already slaughtered; Children and women in one pile, men in the other. Many the heartless Nazis paired their lips to the beautiful women before they were killed; their lustful grasp around their bodies.
The innocent slowly were slaughtered, and the German force took celebration onto their merciless feat. Many of the Germans shot drunkenly, holding a bottle of alcohol as they aimed for the next resident in line to die.
Arthur kept his angered glare at the ruthless Ulrich, who held the horrified woman close to him, placing his mouth onto her frightened lips. He grasped her insensitively, she cried for mercy.
“Enough,” Arthur muttered, grasping his gun harshly. He lifted his gun slowly, placing his aim at Ulrich’s head.
Time lapsed; his surroundings began to slow. All he could focus on was the German Army; the civilians; Ulrich.
Time began to move ahead once he heard a bullet soar by his ear; one of his privates struck in the heart, killing him instantly.
Arthur knew it was time to act.
He and his small army flooded down the debris; the Germans immediately reaching for their guns. Many of the enemy army shot down the on-coming militias; leaving Arthur with less than half of what he started with.
He darted to Ulrich, which was his main objective to destroy. Ulrich’s smile raged to a sneer; he launched his gun in his hand, and quickly pulled the trigger multiple times.
Hitting most of Arthur’s army, Arthur swiftly tackled Ulrich, who threw the woman on the dirted ground.
The scurry became brief once Ulrich slipped out of Arthur’s impressive grasp. He disappeared into the midnight fog, leaving Arthur with the slaughtered bodies of his men, and the few surviving Nazi soldiers ready to butcher the ally’s General.
Without hesitation, Arthur snatched his handgun rapidly, beginning to shoot some of the soldier’s down to their death. The other soldiers fought back harshly. Arthur clutched his gun as rigid as he could, ultimately shelling down all the enemy soldiers.
Then fell the ultimate silence.
Arthur placed his gun firmly on his shoulder; his eyes darting for the persistent Ulrich.
“I know you’re around here, Ulrich…”
“It’s been a while, Arthur.”
Arthur turned around; his breath deepening, his pulse elevating to dangerous, frightening levels.
“Joseph told me to keep you alive,” Ulrich chuckled darkly in the midst of the fog, strutting languidly around to fool Arthur with the echoing sound of his boots. “To keep you miserable…”
“You will do no such thing,” Arthur growled, placing the barrel side by his temple, sweat rolling down his jawline.
“Ah,” Ulrich sighed, suddenly placing his strong hand on Arthur’s tense shoulder. The Allied General froze; his gaze into the distance widened by Ulrich’s soft words being whispered into his sensitive ear.
“I have already done that, Arthur…”
“ENOUGH!”
Arthur swung around, striking Ulrich in his temple with the back of his gun. A chaotic cackle echoed in Ulrich’s hollow chest; unleashing its horrid sound out in the fogged abyss.
Ulrich immediately slung his strong hand at Arthur’s throat, rising slowly from the impact of Arthur’s blow. His smile became sinister, blood trickled by the side of his head, reddening his expression.
Arthur’s breath became shortened, in never-ending pain. His hands grasped Ulrich’s powerful arm; another harsh cackle echoed out of Ulrich’s bloodied mouth.
“Aw, mein liebchen…” Ulrich mocked, speaking softly. “Did I hurt you…? Am I hurting you now?” Arthur did not dare to utter a sentence; he concentrated more on saving his dear breath.
“Answer me darling!” Ulrich commanded, shaking the General sadistically. “Answer me!”
“STOP!” screamed what was left of Arthur’s voice. Ulrich’s smile remained.
“Why would I?” Ulrich chuckled, dropping Arthur to the dirty ground, booting his gut with all of his weight. “Taking care of you is so much fun…!”
Arthur threw himself up, forcing himself to persist this battle; to end it for good.
With no hesitation, Arthur flung himself at the German, pinning him to the ground; his gun at his side.
“You ruined me…” He began, swinging his angered fist in the back of Ulrich’s head. “You destroyed my sanity!”
Ulrich did not respond, for the back of his head leaked from the harsh impact of Arthur’s fist.
“My love…” Arthur continued, staring at his bloodied fists. “You ruined him; he is horribly hurt because of you…! He couldn’t even look at me in the eye.”
“Arthur, please-“
“SHUT UP!”
Another blow to the head traumatized the weakening German.
“And… My brother…” Arthur sneered. “He caused all of this… If he didn’t meet you… None of this wouldn’t have happened.”
“Arthur-“
“IF YOU WERE NOT BORN, NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED!”
The blows to Ulrich’s head became fatal; the blood ran passed his jawline; his cheeks; down his ruined smile; the precious… Never-ending smile.
Ulrich’s soft laugh ruined the General’s strife; his body suddenly stricken with fear.
“Dear Arthur…” coughed Ulrich, moving his head slowly to the side, trying to eye Arthur as well as he could.
“What makes you think… I wanted to be born in the first place…?”
Arthur eyed the man carefully, finding horrible pain wrenched in his stare. A smile of peace was found calmly on his bloodied lips; his eyes then closed slowly.
“When I was young… All I was familiar with was death.”
The General listened intently, sticking his gaze to his newly bloodied hands.
“My mother killed… My father murdered as well…” He coughed, blood leaking from his mouth. “I didn’t know what to do with myself… Death seemed to be the only option for me.”
Arthur glanced at him briefly, then returning his site to his reddened hands.
“I thought, for sometime in my life,” he continued, his voice slowly dying into a weakened voice. “That I was dead.”
Arthur then threw his sorrowful gaze at the German; Ulrich no longer smiling. No tears shed down his face; only blood showed the immense pain he has encountered.
“Loneliness,” Ulrich suddenly laughed.“Loneliness is death on earth, Arthur. Did you not know? Do you not know the feeling, Arthur…?”
“I do,” Arthur growled, his rage never dying down. “You showed me the feeling yourself.”
“You’re right.” Ulrich admitted, smiling from his accomplishment. “But it does not matter anymore… Not to me anyway.”
The General became confused at the sight; the once strong, never-faltered man now slowly dying in his eyes. He has become the weakest man he had ever seen.
“Oh, you only had one delicious taste of it, Arthur…!” Ulrich smiled weakly, his coughs becoming more like his breaths. “Try having to deal with it for years… Your childhood, Arthur…! I was dead as a child…!”
Arthur watched the decaying man before his very eyes; his glance never letting go.
“Oh, the sweetness of loneliness,” Ulrich continued. “Loneliness… The Loneliness Arthur…”
His eyes rested deeply; the soul in his face vanished; his body began to freeze.
“Mein… Einsamkeit.”
His last breath escaped finally out of his dying lips. Arthur watched the man for a while; waiting for any reaction.
He finally realized he had killed Ulrich Austerlitz.
He stood suddenly, staring at the fresh corpse he had just killed. His eyes searched the foggy wasteland; the familiar sent of blood and rot rang in his nostrils; the site of smoke, murdered civilians; it all came flooding back straight into his reality.
Ulrich Austerlitz was now among the dead. And Arthur had done it.
A strange sense of peace came to him; also, at the same time, a horrible feeling of guilt flooded his veins. He felt the urge to rejoice, but the recommended mania to mourn.
His head flooded with mixed emotions; all of it reoccurred when he saw Ulrich’s face.
I was looking at my iPod and found some old stuff that I had written. Some headcanons about Lu and the twins, some smutty things of the Electric Tiger and rabbit kills snake variety, and just random other stuff. I may post it.
