Shoe shopping was a success! Famous Footwear has a Black Friday sale...Buy one, get one 50% off on all shoes. I got a pair of New Balances for work and the gym (orig $64.99) and a pair of Asics gel venture 6s ($69.99). Since it was buy 1, get one 50% off...I only paid $32 for the New Balances. I also got an extra 15% off everything for signing up for their free rewards program. The final total was $94.81. Both shoes are legit running shoes. Typically I spend between $100-150 on a pair of running shoes. Today I got 2 pairs for LESS than $100!

The Beauty of the Irrational

Human beings don’t always make rational decisions. But making irrational decisions is precisely what makes us human. "The Beauty of the Irrational" follows Ryan Sandes, a South African Ultra-Runner, as he returns to the Fish River Canyon to run the 5 day, 84km, Fish River Canyon Hiking Trail in the fastest time possible. He completed the run, self-supported, in amazing time of 6h57min!

For the most part, we exist in a numb, dead society. I’m doing my best to be alive and running in the mountains is the best way I’ve found to do that. And because I love the effortlessness that sometimes occurs while cruising down a cushy pine-needle singletrack or even while grinding up a switchback above tree line. I love how I can run up and into a mountain cirque or over a pass and be completely dwarfed and humbled by the sheer immensity and grandiosity of the landscape and I love flying down the other side with the breeze in my hair and the gravel in my shoes and the burning in my quads and the branches in my face and then when I'm finally all worn out there's nothing like peeling my shoes off and just sitting. Just being at rest. Running sharpens the focus on life and intensifies the emotions. Is there any better reason to do anything?
