@ultxmate ❤‘d for a starter !
It had been hours since he’d had the thought to check the clock, but a quick glance was all Tails needed to prove that he was losing steam on this project. Stripping and re-dressing wires was monotonous enough that he even felt his head lolling as he worked, which was never a good sign; Tails didn’t want to think about the lecture he’d receive if any ( noticeable ) damage came from his tinkering. It was when his head made a dangerous loll forward that Tails decided to clean up ( push things aside in hopes of opening a few more spare inches of workspace ) what he could at his main workbench, hoping some movement would wake him up. Arms full of tools, scraps, and parts, he began to shuffle towards one of the more empty cabinets in the shop. He spared a glance, a momentary flick of the gaze, towards the open door-- always left open to let in some fresh air when projects required a more toxic touch, mostly when using specific glues--
“Woah--!” The kit yipped out with a full-body jerk in his surprise, fumbling with the mountain of tools balanced precisely in his hands; at least none of it was breakable, Tails noted to himself with a sigh. His head jerked back up to the doorway, half expecting the figure he vaguely caught with the corner of his eye to be gone ( as they had been doing all morning, but that always came with lack of sleep, the little mechanic was quite aware ). But, there he was, greeted with the sight of a familiar, vaguely-annoyed face, and the embarrassment of the startle twisted Tails’ stomach uncomfortably as he sighed a short laugh.
“I must be seeing things,” he mumbled aloud, kneeling to gather up the ( literal ) fistfuls of tools he’d managed to fumble with in his surprise. Sparing another look to the hedgehog, Tails gave a small smile. “Since I know Shadow doesn’t do personal calls.” The guy could barely stand to admit he didn’t outright hate everyone in an immediate, five-mile radius, but Tails attributed this more to his overall-prickly nature ( among other things ), rather than a genuine dislike for others.
“Ah-- did you... need something, maybe?” Best to handle this on his own, as long as Shadow didn’t seem to be an outright threat yet.
