Uluka
A bit of a headcanons about Shakuni's sons🦅
(They're sad now, but someday I'll write funny ones)
Uluka
Uluka is his father's right-hand man. He places all his hopes for the governance of Gandhara on Uluka, as well as for his assistance in his strategies and intrigues (he almost never involved him directly, rather, he put him forward as his confidant when he could not be in two places at once). They are in general very similar (he did not get much from his mother in appearance), Uluka in many ways took the best from his parents, however, he has very ... lack of charisma. He has excellent management skills, is very intelligent, well-mannered, and mostly good-natured (?), but yes, his father's charisma was passed on to his younger brother, Vrica.
Some people might think that Uluka is a bit strange and cowardly, but that's not true at all. Yes, he does have some quirks, such as rarely blinking and sleeping little (after all, he's been acting as a messenger and negotiator for his father), but he often looks tired because of it. He's often introverted, but he always pays attention to what's going on around him. Despite his quirks, Uluka is not a coward and has never been one.
Uluka, as the first grandson of the Gandhara dynasty, was much favored by King Subala. He gained an understanding of dharma from him, but with a father like Shakuni... Dharma had to be compromised.
It's just a throwaway line, but Uluka is both insanely attracted to Krishna and terrified of him. Krishna finds Uluka to be a wonderful, but poisoned by his father's revenge.
Shakuni is genuinely proud of him. In many ways, his pride and trust are evident in the fact that he has fully entrusted his son with the management of Gandhara in his absence. However, as Shakuni delved deeper into the world of intrigue, strategy, and the pursuit of both revenge and power, he began to view his son not only as a child and a continuation of the family line, but also as a tool. A valuable tool, yes, but a tool nonetheless. For a long time, Uluka felt sick in his heart because of this, and unfortunately he never remembered what it was like to go back to the time when he was his father's son. Sahadev had mortally wounded Uluka, who was protecting Shakuni, and he had died just before he felt his father's hands entwined in his hair, as they had in childhood, his father's forehead touching his son's, shedding stingy tears of grief and rage. Then, for the first time in a long time, Shakuni would remember who Uluka was. And how much he loved him.
Vrica
Of course, a chuckle in Shakuni's face from his father)0 Subala (Shakuni and Gandhari's father) and Vrica are incredibly similar. Both are very tall (Vrica is a head and a half taller than Uluka, and Uluka is literally half a head taller than his father), with piercing eyes. Vrica bears a strong resemblance to his mother, Arshi, in terms of his eyes and smile, but he has inherited his father's charisma.
In addition to his tall stature, Vrica is physically strong and has a fiery temper (Shakuni suffered with him during his 12-year stay in Gandhara, but considering the personalities of his dear nephews... He adapted quickly).
He was a very funny guy, and he was the only one with whom Uluka felt truly relaxed.
When Shakuni announced that he and Uluka would be going to war, Vrica felt a sense of intuition for the first time in his life. His brother was a decent warrior, but he was primarily a diplomat and a strategist. Vrica tried to convince his father to take him to war, but he was stopped by Uluka himself. Of course, Shakuni wouldn't have sent his heir to the front lines. Uluka spent most of the battle on the periphery, but it ended with his life being given for his father.
Vrica was on the verge of insanity when the news arrived that his father and older brother had been killed. Despite his mother's attempts at comfort and his sister's efforts to soothe him, he was unable to fully accept the loss. Everyone had commented on the resemblance between Uluka and his father, but at that moment, Vrica fully understood the clinging, tragic darkness, the resentment, the rage, the regret, and the desire for revenge that had once consumed Shakuni's heart.
When, as a means of maintaining peace, and Gandhara's refusal to fight the Pandavas, Sahadev took sister of Vrica, Indira, as his wife, the world of Vrica fell apart. Sahadev and Indira truly loved each other, but the girl was doomed to spend long, sleepless nights in bed with the murderer of her father and brother, until she was able to overcome her pain and let it go (largely thanks to Krishna).
From that moment on, Vrica stopped smiling and began to wither away, drowning in anger and pain. After Indira's marriage, their mother, Arshi, went into seclusion, and eventually, news came that she had entered the holy fire to purify her and her family's sins. A day later, Vrica chose to do the same.
