IT'S NOT SOMETHING HE EXPECTS. Hell, it's everything he wants, but Teddy isn't delusional; there is a fine line of expectation and desire that he knows that there is rightly so a boundary. Daenerys is out of his league in so many different ways and for so many different reasons, and Ted is pretty certain he's fucked it up one too many times to be taken seriously as a...prospect.
But what is it that the kids say these days? He doesn't feel old; he pretty sure he isn't, not really. But he feels clumsy and out of practice, and ' SHOOT YOUR SHOT ' seems less like a rallying cry to live life without any regrets and more like a recipe for incredibly disastrous & society-leaving embarrassing result.
He feels like a puppy dog in love whenever she enters the room, and it's no different now when he's walking her back up to her apartment. He can barely get any words out; honest to god he's usually a lot smoother than this, but in the next moment, there's a twinkling of laughter from Daenerys and suddenly, her soft lips are against his and Teddy instinctively kisses her back because holy shit!
If he's stunned, it's because his brain hasn't caught up to the rest of his body, and Teddy takes a moment to catch his breath. "That's --...you...meant to do that, right? Like that wasn't --...you didn't just fall and happen to kiss me, right?" And then, that dazzling, boyish smile as he looks almost giddy. " --- Because uh --...
