I will never forget this day. Floating along the misty Brahmaputra to Shiva’s Umananda temple. I was getting into a dreamy, longing state for Shiva and my teacher took the opportunity to share the story of Kali’s birth and the birth of women’s empowerment. A story I needed to hear. A story I’m still chewing on. Coming back from the island, still in the incredible bliss I felt in the temple, my teacher loving said “Many women want to marry shiva. Beautiful women, smart women. Husbands line up but they say “No, only Shiva.” But you, you cannot stay here. Come back. Come back with us.” Shiva will not save me. He will not romance me and I can not control him.
