Fairy hotsprings are haikara: Italians in Umatani Anime pt.2
Read part 1 here
So it seems I forgot there was something Italian-related in Fairy Ranmaru too, when I wrote that other post. LOL
How could I forget about the Thermae Fata? 🤯
Fata means fairy in Italian. It's as simple as that XD But it's funny how they used yet another Italian word. (Thermae is latin for hotsprings, the Italian word is "terme"). ♨️
This place has more of a western vibe than the onsen in Boueibu, so it makes sense that the name reflects that too.
As you may know, Boueibu Haikara was not licensed in English, and Italy is one of the few countries (maybe the only one?) outside Japan that got an official release!
But did you know that Takamatsu Shinji (director) and the Roman-dan's VAs recorded a special message for their Italian fans? 😮
Full video is on youtube
Translation: "To our viewers in Italy, ciaooooo!"
"We are happy that you can watch this series from Italy"
Ok, this one isn’t from the anime, but it’s funny how it still somehow connects Umatani and Italy, right? 😄
Do you think I missed something else? Maybe there was an Italy reference in Robihachi, too?
I don’t think so, but I was already wrong about Fairy Ranmaru…😅 Let me know if you remember something I might have missed! 🥰
And as always, thank you for reading 'til the end 💜
Got an art scam bot comment on my most recent fic. Double checked, and found comments on two other fics in the Boueibu tag on AO3.
Specifically, it's from AO3 registered user lizziedoesitall, not a guest user.
Biggest red flag aside from all three comments saying to contact them on Discord or Instagram to collaborate on turning the fic into a comic, was the time stamps were only a minute apart.
Mine opened with "I just read your latest chapter" but the comment was on the fic's first chapter and only discussed content from there.
Some of what was brought up also felt generic. Like Yumoto saying "Love is over!" apparently made them drop their phone, when it wasn't a really significant thing in the fic? That's just what Yumoto says in the show, and so he said it in the fic.
There was also the line:
It felt like watching a mashup of Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! and Revolutionary Girl Utena if they crash-landed in the middle of a department store.
Made a post earlier about it, but I feel the entire/vast majority of the fandom calls it Boueibu? No one uses the English title to refer to the series (or if they do include it as a tag, it's in addition to #boueibu).
(Admittedly, it is interesting to know that whatever AI model they fed my fic to for writing the "review" part of the comment associates my style with Utena...)
But yeah, make sure to block lizziedoesitall and report any comment from the account as spam!
The new show will be another installment in the Boueibu franchise
This one will be named; Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu Haikara!
Original creator; Umatani Kurari
Animation; Studio Deen
Director; Shinji Takamatsu
So far, that's all the info we have.
This image also reveals our protagonists this time; 5 colourful characters dressed in traditional Japanese clothing together with their cat mascot.
Judging from what they're holding and the new logo, there also appears to be a flower theme this time around.
Do you have WIPs? Either unfinished fics that you keep meaning to get back to, drawings you never fully rendered, or an AMV you've posted previews of but never finished?
Consider this blog your motivation to continue them!
(This blog is called "completionists" but it's more about posting continuations!)
Choose one of your old WIPs per month (you can leave some months blank) and work on it!
By specifying a WIP per month, it gives a more concrete resolution than just "work on WIPs."
You can post the template filled out and I'll reblog it here (because sometimes seeing the motivation of others can help you get motivated, too) or you can save it for yourself if you prefer!
Thought it'd be a neat idea, since 2024 is the 10 year anniversary of Boueibu LOVE getting announced!
-all boys cast. if there's a girl she's the only one and also pink, in typical boy's show fashion.
-guys transform into a thing
-x of the week paired with some kind of batshit plot that gets revealed later on
-catchphrases that are repeated. often.
-colourful character designs that are bordering on tacky- oh who i am i kidding. they are tacky. tacky as hell.
-MASCOT CHARACTERS. always some kind of animal.
-antagonist who is homosexually obsessed with one of the main characters. usually has 2 goons.
-lots of gay shit (yes. besides the antagonist)
-despite the gay shit there's always one guy who's obsessed with women. usually gets no bitches though.
-giant age gaps. for some reason..?
-Sugita Tomokazu and Yamamoto Kazutomi are there. most of the time.
Thermae, Chest Hair, and Coffee Crimes: Italians in Umatani Anime pt.1
If you're an Umatani anime fan you probably noticed that Italian characters and words appear several times in different series (I wonder if there's an Italy-lover in the team) but I'm here to share my (totally unrequested) take on this from an Italian perspective. 😅
Let's start with the more obvious: the Karls Knights names in Binan Koukou Chikyuu Boueibu HAPPY KISS!
Of course we have Fiore Kiss, Stella Kiss, Luna Kiss, Neve Kiss and Spazio Kiss where fiore, stella, luna, neve and spazio are all Italian words.
The meaning being: Fiore = flower 🌷, Stella = star ⭐, Luna = moon 🌙, Neve = snow ❄️ and Spazio = space 🌠 (in the sense of the physical universe beyond the earth's atmosphere) with no surprise for anyone, I guess 😅
They're shockingly accurate and in the singular form and that's not always a given in foreign shows. Well done Umatani team! 😁
We have this in Italy too. It's the "loves me, loves me not" game. We say: "M'ama, non m'ama"
Going back a little to Binan Koukou Chikyuu Boueibu Love Love we have the episode with the twin Italian brothers. (s02 ep4)
Let's start with their names: Bernardo is definetly an Italian name but not a very popular one. (source)
Alan is even less popular. (source) I always thought of it as foreing name in fact!
Salvatore, on the other hand, is very popular in the south area of Italy as a name litterally meaning "savior" but it can also be a surname so nothing to complain about here, too. 😊
That's true Yumoto! Your brother taught you well!
As for Alan being jelous of his brother's chest hair… well that's not an Italian trait per se XD More of a personality trait! I never met anyone with a body hair complex but I'm not a very social person 🤣🤣🤣
Italian men and boys are hairy though… More than Japanese men and boys are so… I guess it could make sense? I don't know 🤣
And last but not least we have the figure skating coach from Gekkan Mousou Kagaku (Delusional Monthly Magazine) named Roberto Morricone.
Oops Italian subtitles X°D
Roberto is a much more popular name in Italy. (source)
It's my dad's name! XD
And Morricone is internationally known as the surname of the famous Italian composer Ennio Morricone.
This pairing sound much more familiar to me than the names of the twins in Love Love.
The interesting part is when Roberto enters the cafè and asks the bartender for a double espresso with no sugar.
Of course, he IS Italian, so he drinks espresso and not just coffee!
We are really proud of our espresso! I'm not kidding! XD
Is this an espresso?
The scene is hilarious 'cos Rock is really puzzled by the request and maybe he doesn't have an espresso machine so he serves the poor coach something out of a carton box… I don't even wanna know what that was! Roberto notices right away that that's not what he asked for and clearly doesn't like it! OMG I'm with you Roberto! 🤢
That scene was particularly funny for me 'cos it reminded me of something that happend to my (now) husband when we were in Tokyo in 2015. We were tired for walking all day and he was upset and nervous (I don't really remember why) so we decided to take a break at Starbucks and take advantage of the free wi-fi in the meantime.
My husband went to the counter and without even thinking he said in English: "One espresso!" and all the employees looked at him and than stared at each other. They even laugh or something and that made my partner's mood even worse… but then they served him an actual espresso (in the very little cup you tipically serve espresso in) and it was surprisingly good. So in the end he had more luck than coach Roberto Morricone I guess 🤣
And that's all. Kudos to the Umatani team for the good work they made with Italian words and chacters in their series. As an Italian I have (almost) nothing to complain about 🤣
I know this post was not interesting at all... So if you sticked with me 'til the end you have all my appreciation!
❤️💚💙💛🩷
As always sorry for my bad English but now you know it's not my first language! 😅🤣
