4. What type of discipline was your character subjected to at home? Strict? Lenient?
Lockwood was very young when his parents died, so in all honesty he has a better memory of fighting their ghosts than of who they were when they were alive. In the grand scheme of things, he was raised mostly by Gravedigger Sikes, but before that his sister.
When his parents were alive, however, they encouraged creativity and exploration in both their children. With appropriate boundaries of course (like curfews and the like), Anthony and Jessica were generally allowed to do things for themselves. Climb trees, explore the neighborhood, poke at their mother’s collection of artifacts and ask questions.
Mr. and Mrs. Lockwood cared for the safety of their children very much, but they were also busy researchers who traveled a lot and needed their children to be independent, to an extent, so that the house could function with Jessica in charge.
I could write a huge essay on Gravedigger and how much of a father figure he was to Lockwood, but long story short he was much more strict that Anthony’s parents or sister ever were. He was given a discipline he’d never had before, and thus developed the work ethic, determination, and energy he has today that makes him a great leader. Much of his personality and beliefs come directly from what Gravedigger taught him.
He is the inspiration for Lockwood’s motivation; he showed Lockwood that he was capable of avenging his sister’s death and, maybe, bringing him peace of mind. Unfortunately it doesn’t work quite like that.
49. What about voice? Pitch? Strength? Tempo and rhythm of speech? Pronunciation? Accent?
Oh dang Jess sent me a link to this guy who’s voice I really liked but I lost the linkkkk
Basically he talks like a 16 year old trying to convince people he’s 25 (because that’s exactly who he is). He is determined to get respect and hold himself in a way that gets it for him, which translates into the way he speaks.
It’s relatively deep I suppose. Nothing crazy low but at that certain pitch where it can pierce through a crowd and he can quiet a room without having to yell.
His accent is just a little more posh that it has to be, especially when he’s talking to a new client or trying to make a good impression.
Once I find the link to that video I’ll make sure to add it on. Lockwood’s voice is actually one of the hardest things for me to nail down h a
