EFF THE UNCHARTED 4 PS4.
That’s right. You read correctly. When Uncharted 4 came out, I bought the special edition PS4 that came out with it. You know the one. The pretty grey-blue one.
Yes, that one.
And followers, I have complaints.
First off, I adored Nathanial. Yes, I named it Nathanial. But my complaints are:
1. The controller was hella sensitive. I don’t exactly know why, but I found the controller to be more sensitive than the standard black PS4 Duelshocks. I haven’t used any other color Duelshocks other than the blue Uncharted 4 controller, and the standard black. Well, I take that back, I had a pink and pastel purple PS3 controller set. But I don’t think they were Sony Duelshock brand. I think they were third party. But even those weren’t as sensitive as this controller.
2. About four months after buying the Uncharted 4 PS4, it crapped out. And when I say it crapped out, I mean that the controller would become unsynced from the console, and the console would lose connection to the T.V. and would not reconnect unless I completely shut everything off, via my serge protector.
I TRIED EVERYTHING TO FIX THIS. I shit you not. I did not want to give Nathanial up. I wanted Nathanial to live. At first I was so angry. My other could literally tell you all, I was throwing things, and crying.
Yes, you read correctly. Crying. Over my PS4. Who was lovingly named.
(”ONCE YOU NAME IT YOU START GETTING ATTACHED TO IT.”-- Mike Wazoski knew what he was talking about.)
So after a few times of it throwing a temper tantrum, and myself counter tantruming, I started to try things. I tried a new serge protector, I tried a new HDMI cord, I tried a different HDMI port, I tried unplugging things from my serge protector.
I called Sony. You have not experienced anger until you have to call Sony Customer service. They had me turn it on in Safe Mode, and rebuild the database from there.
Which put me in an infinite friggityfraggity loop of anger. It would not come out of the rebuild database thing. It kept reloading. It was crap.
Incoming more anger. So the Sony Rep tells me that I need to call a certain eight letter gamestores customer service, and get them to send me a copy of my receipt saying that I did indeed buy my console there. From there, I would have to send that receipt to Sony so that they could send me a box to send my pile of trash console back to them with. Apparently to get the box would be a few weeks, it would take them another few weeks to get the console and another few weeks to fix the console and then send it back to me.
Here’s my concern:
1. UPS/Fedex does not give a shit about our boxes. They will kick them down a flight of stairs and not think twice.
2. What if my console gets lost in the mail? What if it never makes it to Sony? What if it never makes it to me?
3. What if it still doesn’t work after being fixed?
Turns out, of the three, the third option was probably more likely to happen. After doing some research, I found out that for some reason the Uncharted 4 PS4 actually has a higher failure rate. On Amazon, the console has minimal stars for that reason. There are people who are on their third and fourth console having the same issue. Honestly, I was pretty pissed.
I ended up taking Nathanial back to the eight letter gamestore that he came from, and thankfully my coworker was able to work it out where it went into the system as defective, and I was able to get a PS4 Slim model in replacement.
Who I named Booker, because the first game to ever be loaded into it was The Bioshock Collection.
I haven’t had an issue since, Booker has served well. The Slim works great and I definitely recommend it to you guys. It’s more compact, no seriously, this thing is tiny. It’s also quieter, and I feel like it doesn’t get as hot as the bigger model did. My controller, also, isn’t as sensitive.
I dunno. I guess I’m a little scared away from special edition consoles now. Do they all have higher failure rate? I really wonder this. I also wonder if them having a higher failure rate is purposeful. I mean, special edition consoles often cost more than the generic, and that might make them more money?
I guess it’s hard to say. Most I can tell you guys is that you should definitely be careful when buying your electronics, special edition or not. And always buy a warranty, if it’s available. Because Sonys way of helping is trash. Who wants to go months at a time without their console?
Any true gamer will say, “No one.”
