her second grade teacher ignites her love of reading

a teacher who takes the time to read The Little House on the Prairie out-loud to the class and has people who personally knew Laura Ingalls Wilder come and share their knowledge and memories

from falling behind to being the top of the class, she rises

her awe of teaching, of literature, of history, starts growing and never stops

all because one women loved reading and didn’t turn away nor scoff at the little girl who was falling behind

in front of her, cars are parked on the side of the road as far as she can see

in any other circumstances, this would be cause for irritation

but she (and her two daughters) are in Yellowstone, where this sight calls for excitement and for the camera to be dug out from underneath a pile of jackets and pillows

she pulls over, in her parent’s chevy impala which she is borrowing for this trip

necks craning, they role down the windows and search for wildlife

a black bear strolls out of the brush, its easy gait speaking of how routine this sight is for him

they role their windows back up (with much protest from her youngest of six years)

he ambles forward, choosing their car to pass in front of, and disappears into the brush on the other side of the road
