Imbue UN city with the UN spirit
DESIGNING INTERACTIVE SPACES for UN CITY
Brief
Create an interactive experience, in the public space of UN City, that communicates to visitors what the UN does and stands for.
Assignment
Each group will be asked to conceive of an interactive space that engages visitors (tourists, school groups) and employees of UN City in one of the three topics below.
—————————————
1 Small actions, big impacts
Connect visitors’ everyday interactions with the UN CITY building to one of the 17 SDGs #2030.
Create an interactive space around the idea that small everyday actions can lead to big impacts when taken on by many people. Study the places and everyday functions of the building, look for common behaviors that visitors employ in different spaces and use this to create an interactive intervention.
—————————————
2 Create dialogue, build bridges
Welcome visitors and employees and further connect them to the UN City and each other.
Create an interactive space that enhances the building’s architectural intent to “create dialogue, interaction and positive encounters between people in all parts of the world”. Think about different spatial moments in the visitor experience (a stair, a door, light through a window, a long corridor or even a corner) that can be transformed through interactivity to create an (emotional) message about UN CITY.
—————————————
3 Telepresence: office to field
Connect the UN city visitors and employees to the work that the UN engages in out in the field.
UN City is a symbolic and physical representation of the UN goals, culture and spirit. It uniquely connects 9 different UN agencies under one roof. Create an interactive space that goes even further afield and connects this office of the UN more directly to the field offices on the ground in refugee camps, food banks, conflict zones, etc.
