Alright, another Uncle Lorne teaser but with baby Tommy, gotta keep you guys interested and all that jazz.
On slightly-shaky knees, he ventured down a flight of steps to get inside Caritas and his mind supplied, wow, that's a lot of people in full monster makeup, but there were regular people too. And yep, there was karaoke and right now there was a tall man painted green and wearing stubby red horns singing beautifully on stage.
His magenta suit appeared loose, but it sat on his frame comfortably, and his vivid blue shirt glittered under the spotlight. Tommy leaned against the nearest wall, transfixed by the singer’s easy confidence.
Three coins in the fountain
Through the ripples how they shine
And just one wish will be granted
One heart will wear a valentine
Make it mine
Make it mine
Make it mine
He could feel the rich, velvety voice from the top of his skull shimmering right down to his toes. A strange yearning suffused him and he could feel tears springing to his eyes. For a second, he wasn’t here in this bar by himself, but somewhere bright and sunny, a strong, calloused hand clasped in his, and Tommy was leading the way towards a fountain basin, the classical sculptures marble and gleaming white in the afternoon.
The want for such an experience exploded in his mind and he staggered to a bar stool. He had known, of course, but he had never let himself imagine anything like that, so vividly.
The music trailed off and the house lights came up. The singer bowed with a flourish, beaming at the applause and saying, "Alrighty, mic is all warmed up, please come up for a song and then pop by the bar if you wanna chat."
As the singer hopped down the stage, he spied Tommy at the bar. He tilted his head and gave a wide, warm smile. "Well hello, tall, dark and handsome. Good to see a new face round these parts. First-timers get a discount at the bar."
"Oh, uh, how did you know I'm new?"
The singer raised an eyebrow like it explained anything. "Timo, peach Bellini."
