A Crop at Last

March 3, 1903

Uncle Sam looks on as two large Peaches labelled U.S. Senator grow from behind the Delaware fence.  J. Edward Addicks lurks near the fence with a stick. 

The caption reads "The Delaware Peach Crop Is Not a Failure This Year." 

Due to conflicts in the Republican Party, Delaware had had no senators for two years, partially due to the efforts of Addicks, a gas magnate who had tried to buy a senate seat. In 1903 they finally seated two senators.
