Bad mental health is a lot of things to a lot of people. Anxiety, depression, paranoia, bipolar, the list is long and the symptoms are longer. Ignoring calls and messages from strangers, from friends, from family for days, for weeks, for months remembering how long it’s been since the message or call has gone unanswered everytime you see it. Driving to a destination and never getting out of the car. Things like laundry, kitchenware, hygiene can all go neglected for days or weeks. It’s a voice in your head repeating every insecurity, every awful moment. It keeps you from the reaching out to anyone or it can make you lash out at others, or yourself.
Everything you’ve ever found fun goes dull. It’s a numbing of joy, and you can start to think that’s all there ever was, is, and will be. Every single time I experience these awful cycles I’ll try a dozen things to stunt them to prevent them. Water, food, exercise, hugs, hearing people talk, driving with no destination, changing clothes, mental exercises, consuming your favorite media, sleeping, or sometimes waiting it out for a few days is the only thing that works, and that’s okay.
