We all need to stop Russia. The world needs to stop the war. I am grateful to everyone who acts in support of Ukraine, in support of freedom. But the war goes on. The terror against peaceful people continues. It's been a month already! It's been so long! This breaks my heart, all Ukrainians and every free person on earth. Therefore I ask you to stand up against the war!8m

please yes! i am uncertain how much i have to contribute since i only just started paying attention to characters’ weapons of choice and only know the superficial significance of different weapon types, but still. here is a small amount of things:
daryl, michonne, and carol are the ones with (to me) the most noteworthy weaponry.
daryl obviously uses the crossbow whenever possible: quiet, powerful, reusable ammunition, requires precision and strength. especially at mid to long ranges, it’s probably just as effective as a gun if not more so, since the walkers aren’t armored and he doesn’t have to worry about running out of arrows in the same way that gun users have to worry about running out of bullets. it requires spending time to reload every time though, and when his arrows do eventually break he has to make new ones. he has a more personal relationship with his main weapon than most of the other characters do because he has been using it or something like it for presumably most of his adult and adolescent life, and since (i think?) he has made at least some of the arrows rather than purchasing them. when not using the crossbow he tends to go for knives (and when they are escaping terminus he is the only one to pick up one knife and one metal bar instead of two knives). all of these preferences/tendencies demonstrate 1) proficiency in violence, 2) lack of reliance on technology and probably reluctance to rely on things he doesn’t have total control over, and 3) relatively intimate connection with violence. he has used guns but he didn’t even miss the one he had in his motorcycle bag when carl stole it back in s2 or 3. he’s very well adapted to the world as it is on the show mostly, but i’m not sure why he picks the crossbow over guns at close range since it takes up so much space and requires reloading after every shot, and i don’t know why he voluntarily chose a metal object over a second knife when given the option...
michonne’s sword is fantastic since it doesn’t need reloading, it’s effective at close range, and it’s extremely efficient. it’s pointless at long range, but she’s mostly interested in avoiding killing when it’s not necessary. she’s quick and quiet and (was) solitary, but doesn’t have much foresight, maybe? she’s avoidant rather than proactive about her tactics, more defensive than offensive. while she’s really phenomenal with her weapons, the way she uses them suggests that she’d rather not have to use them (unlike daryl, who actively hunts and generally seems quite willing to fight). also unlike daryl’s crossbow and assorted other weapons, the sword isn’t something that has been connected to for long: it’s a sword from a culture she doesn’t come from that used to be decorative that she has made part of herself, and i’m not sure if there’s some commentary there to be teased out or invented. i’ve only just gotten to the part where she loses the sword to terminus so i don’t know what happens with her weaponry after that.
carol, less obviously, has the brass knuckles knife. that is less of statement than a crossbow or a katana and i don’t know if we’ve ever seen her use the brass knuckles part, but it’s interesting that she has it. that’s a combat weapon, whereas carol mostly engages in violence in a secretive, non-combative way, so why does she have it?
rick likes guns and will often chose a pistol over a quieter weapon that doesn’t require ammo despite telling other characters to conserve ammunition and be quiet. i suspect this is carryover from being a cop, and probably also a power thing. a gun is more powerful than a knife even if it’s not as good a choice contextually. he also gets to keep a physical and symbolic distance between himself and the thing he’s killing if he uses a gun, suggesting possibly that he isn’t as comfortable with performing violence than daryl and michonne and other non-gun users? and yet he bit that guy’s throat out so i don’t even know.
glenn is adaptive af. i don’t know what his first choice weapon is but he will use anything he can get his hands on, and he will do it effectively. he’s smart and not afraid of getting his hands dirty or being deep into whatever he’s doing. i don’t really have anything more except that i’m super impressed with glenn.
andrea liked guns a lot even though, like michonne with her sword, she didn’t know how to use them before everything went to hell.
merle was the epitome of having his weapon be a part of him since his hand was literally replaced by a knife. he was absolutely not afraid of the dirty work.
i’m missing things and this isn’t very coherent but it’s a starting point i guess? is it reasonable to think that gun users are more personally removed from people who choose other weapons over guns? the premise of fusing with weapons interests me a bit...when people use their own bodies as weapons or the weapon seems almost to become part of their body or mind. i’m also interested in characters using the walkers as weapons against other humans, since one would expect, out of context, that the human factions should find a common enemy in the walkers.
