Jaina gave a tight smile. She still wasn’t convinced she had time for fun, and hadn’t realized when she agreed to the trip that Vereesa was intent on leaving immediately. Spontaneous, unplanned fun was most definitely not on her to-do list for the day. She opened her mouth to explain this but closed it again as she watched Vereesa’s face, recognizing the need for escape in her eyes. It was a look that told her that while Vereesa may appear okay on the outside, on the inside, it was a bad day. She understood the feeling. Jaina pushed her chair away from the desk and stood with a smile, ready to comply.  “And where would this vessel of yours be docked, captain?” she smirked, trying her hardest to ignore the stacks of unfinished paperwork on her desk.

continued from here @undeadhighelf A thread of warmth cut through her words. “Two sons who adore you, a heart that still beats and a lack of void flowing through your veins.” Jaina plucked two sugar cubes from the elegant porcelain bowl and dropped them into Vereesa’s teacup. She did the same to her own and swirled the tip of her index finger just above the amber liquid, stirring it magically. “I would not envy what power your sisters wield. The only thing you’ll find in comparing yourself to them is unhappiness. ...Are you not tired of it?”

"Would you like to go sailing?"

Vereesa asks with a smile.

The question caught her off guard. Jaina's quill slipped mid-sentence, spattering the parchment in oil black ink. Cursing softly, she plopped the quill back in its inkwell and waved the stain away in silent, magical command. She leaned back in her chair and sighed softly. Several stacks of documents on her desk served as a reminder that she didn't have time for any recreation, let alone sailing. But the smile on her friend's face made the decision easy. "I suppose I could find the time. Though I thought you preferred to keep your feet on land," she smirked.
