POLITICAL OVERTONES, No. 7 – (sigh) Isn’t it weird to core-sample your attitude toward U2 at different parts of their career? Now Bono is such a high-profile über-rockstar personality, and all their songs are such warhorses, they’re always in-and-out of favor with the critical overlords and have gotten so old they’re definitely Dad Rock—but stick this on and they’re an awesome, noisy, surprising little Irish rock quartet singing big-noise songs that don’t sound like anything else with lots of long-vowel words and chitti-chingy guitars. Like nothing else. And so, uh, what, righteous and accelerated, kind of. I don’t know. At the time, I didn’t feel quite “up” to a whole album so when this “mini-album” (a little longer than a typical EP) came out I grabbed it as my U2 starter kit. Also I was watching my wallet, all the time, and trying not to buy every single album for sale in the store. I guess I felt sort of walled off from their political activist reputation by ignorance, not knowing much about what they were singing about, only that it was really igniting them to the height of artistic indignation. So I skirted the politics and my favorite on here has always been “I Will Follow.” I guess that’s still true. #U2 #bono #underabloodredsky #sundaybloodysunday #newyearsday #iwillfollow #vinyl #vinylcollection #vinylcommunity #vinylfreak #33andathird #33rpm #onmyturntable #ellipticalsoundtrack #treadmillsoundtrack #hoppervinyl #cvhoppervinyl #nowplaying #nowplayingonvinyl (at Noblesville, Indiana) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2lFwVLAUwV/?igshid=159vniyglehmn
