Thinking about this part, when Tooru(Tohru?) defends against Aoyama, and just looking at the illustration of her Quirk. And in particular, the sounds its making. The "Szz" "szz", meanwhile her hazy appearance paired with it, seems to imply something like a fizzling TV screen. She progressively becomes more visible as she appears to walk closer.
Until of course, we finally see her completely
So it's really a gradual process of her form finally taking shape, and I'm wondering now if it's something she can control? Is it under her control and consciously did here? Or was it like a Quirk Evolution where she couldn't possibly do it before and suddenly it kind of manifested; triggered by Izuku being shot at and the emotional gut-punch of Aoyama betraying her and the class? Will it be something she can use in the future, and what are it's uses?
Maybe it's her finding a way of refracting light in a way that actually shows herself.
Honestly, I know it probably wont' be called back much in the future much, if at all, but it's actually a really neat part of her power, if she can in fact control her visibility now.
Additionally, Tooru taking that fighting pose, and marching up on Aoyama after she shields Izuku, I appreciate this girl's tenacity. She doesn't get a lot of attention, but this was a golden moment for her.
Prompt: Derek Smithers never thought he’d be anyone’s moral compass, he was no angel to sit in anyone’s shoulder but trying to keep Alex Rider from following in the ruthless footsteps of his father or worse his former handler, Alan Blunt is as close to hell as he can imagine. (Wherein Alex becomes head of MI6 we watch his morality slip away form the eyes of an increasingly frustrated and heartbroken Smithers - it all culminates when Alex uses a child “just as an informant, simple information gathering” but hidden behind the charming smile of John Rider and the brutal coldness of Alan Blunt’s words is Alex Rider dying as he says them (Smithers just hopes there’s still a part of the boy he once knew in there to mourn)
This guy deserves more love. Honestly probably my favourite extra and the little Imp definitely deserves more love.

“Miss Y/L/N, I understand from a number of your professors that you have become quite a dutiful and diligent student over the years, which I can of course agree with from my own perspective.” Professor McGonagall had called you into her office to discuss something rather important, but from the way she was buttering you up, you knew there must be a catch. “So I wanted to offer you an opportunity that I am beginning this year. It’s a bit of a mentor program for older students to work closely with younger students to help them become acclimated to the environment at Hogwarts and to mentor them through their studies.”
“That sounds like a lovely opportunity, Professor. You think I would be a good fit for it?” You were shocked that you were considered. You never really saw yourself much as the leader type, but you would never question the judgment of your head of house.
“Well of course, you’ve executed your studies quite well and you always seem to be friendly with the younger students. Besides, this is the first year I’m trying something like this, so my expectations are very open for persuading.” The wise woman you had looked up to for the past three years had a lot of faith in you, more than you had in yourself. But you trusted her.
“Okay, who would you like me to mentor?”
“Y/L/N!” You were shaken from your memories as your beloved professor called your name nearby.
“Yes, Professor? What can I do? Where do you need me?” You asked eagerly as you closed the distance between you and Professor McGonagall. Chaos erupted around you and students were being ushered off in all directions.
“I want you to lead the rest of the younger students out of the castle. Take them to the room of requirement and out through the portrait. Aberforth will be waiting to direct them through his home to safety. A first group was already taken down, but I need you to take the rest.” She looked at you as though this task held every hope for the future. And maybe it did.
Once upon a time, you would have been terrified to take on this role, but the confidence instilled in you all those years ago when you were encouraged to take on a mentoring role was coming back to you now.
So in following directions, you led a parade of students quickly through the castle and into the portrait hole where they filed out of the castle safely. So many of these students wanted to stay but they didn’t truly know what they would get themselves into. It was better this way.

“Colin, are you paying attention? Hey!” You snapped at the younger student who had been placed into your care this year. You loved his spunky attitude and the way he truly cared for everyone around him. But sometimes, Colin Creevey had the attention-span of a cornish pixie.
“Huh? What? Sorry, what did you say?” He turned back to face you as you gave him the “don’t make me be disappointed in you” stare.
“I asked you what the wand movement was for a simple barrier charm. But you, on the other hand were too busy glancing around at everything but your book.” You raised an eyebrow at the boy across the table from you.
“Yeah, sorry. It’s just that there’s so much else going on in here, how can I focus on just one thing?” His eyes grew wide as he lifted his camera to his face, lining his eye up just precisely so he could snap a picture to remember what that day had looked like, the Great Hall filled with students. Shaking your head, you closed your own textbook and let Colin know that you would continue your studies in a few days, as was routine.
*
You summoned your strength and raised your wand, emitting small intermittent sparks as they shot toward the sky to combine with the power of the various professors, parents, Order members, and alumni who had returned to fight on behalf of the school. Together, you erected a protective shield, much like you remembered teaching to Colin Creevey, the very first student you had mentored. You were just glad he had been ushered out with the other students who were too young to fight. You had enough to worry about without being concerned over your young friend’s safety.
The truth was, you grew quite fond of Colin through the years that you spent tutoring him. He was a very bright boy, eager to learn any and everything about magic and Hogwarts. You simply helped him focus and encouraged him to dive deeper into his studies. He quickly became like a younger brother to you, one you had always wished for.
*
“Y/N!” You turned to see a head of blond hair bobbing up and down as he ran through the corridor toward you. “Did you hear? Oh!” He stopped just feet from you and lowered his voice before practically whispering, “I mean, did you hear? Harry Potter’s started a new training club. To teach us the spells they won’t teach us in classes this year. I want to join!” He was bouncing on the balls of his feet in excitement just over telling it all to you.
You laughed and put a hand on his shoulder and guided him to the side of the hall to reduce the eavesdropping that could be happening at any moment. “Slow down, Smiley. What’s this about a new club?” You maintained a calm demeanor despite the excitement raging within yourself.
He smiled at the nickname you had given him three years ago. “Harry Potter. He’s created a new secret club so that we can keep learning the important stuff they won’t teach us in class. I’m going to join. You should too!” The curls of his blond hair bounced as he spoke so animatedly about this new group.
“A secret club? Sounds exhilarating. Count me in.” You tousled his hair with your hand which earned you another ear-to-ear grin from the younger boy.
“Come on then. They’re starting soon!” He grabbed your arm and practically yanked you along until your feet caught up with your brain and let you move on your own.
“Y/N! Over here!” You heard the sound of Neville Longbottom calling your name as he fought off two Death Eaters simultaneously. Wheeling around, you headed off in his direction, sending a vicious blow to the first Death Eater in seconds while Neville worked on disarming and stunning the second.
You were so proud of the way the Longbottom boy had grown through the years too. You hadn’t spent as much time with him, but he was nothing like the shy and apprehensive boy of his first year. This boy was fierce and courageous.
You fought side by side with Neville, keeping your opponents at bay and doing your best to defend your beloved school. When you heard the commotion behind you, Neville gave you a nod and you took off to help the next group of students who had become overwhelmed.
*
As much as you believed in him, you couldn’t believe what you were hearing right now.
“No, I want to stay and fight. It’s not fair, everyone else is staying, why not me?” Colin stood confidently as he adamantly expressed his desire to stay behind to help fight in the ensuing battle.
“No, Colin. I need you to leave with the other students. Let the Order take care of this.”
“You don’t think I’m good enough, do you? You think I won’t be able to help, that’s it!” He shook his head as if he couldn’t believe you would think so poorly of him. But that wasn’t it at all. He crossed his arms in frustration.
“No, Colin.” You sighed deeply as you placed your hands on his shoulders to get him to really listen to you. “You’re like my little brother and I can’t have you out there fighting. It isn’t safe and I just need you to be safe okay?” You wanted desperately for him to understand that you had all the faith in the world in him. You had watched him train for three years and from what you had heard from everyone else who was still around, he had continued to improve dramatically over the years you weren’t around anymore.
“I want to stay. I can fight.”
“I know you can, but not this time.”
*
As you ran down the corridors, sending bright flashes of light from your wand in the form of stuns, explosions, protections, healing, and even disarming spells, you could have sworn everything passed by in a blur. You heard desperate pleas for help, cries of anguish and hurt, and rumblings as walls tumbled down around you.
It was everything you could do to keep your head on straight, your eyes clear and your wand steady as you faced well-trained Death Eaters who had nothing on their mind but destruction and death. You performed moves you didn’t even know you could do, dodging out of the way, rolling across floors, casting spells over your shoulder with very little visibility. And you were one of so many who were braving the dangers of the night to defend the place that you once called home.
And a home it still was for many students. You fought not to keep alive a long-standing historical site of nearly unmatched education, although that was important to preserve. Instead, you fought so that students might continue to have a safe place, a home, a community to learn and grow in, much like you were fortunate enough to.
And that is what gave you the strength to endure until the end, or at least until you were brought to your knees as a searing pain washed over you, filling your head with discomfort and fear. Voldemort’s voice echoed, the frightening reverberations of his deep and threatening voice chilling you to the bone. And the news he bore weighed heavily on you as you pondered what you might find when you joined the rest of the survivors to heal the wounded and grieve the deceased while he awaited Harry Potter’s self-sacrifice in the forest.
But when the pain finally subsided and you found the strength to rise to your feet, you made the heartbreaking journey to the Great Hall to gather with the others. Along the way, you helped students gain their own footing after being knocked to the ground or buried under piles of rubble. You performed minimal healing spells on those who you knew how to help and assisted in carrying one particularly hurt student to keep her weight off of her hideously broken leg.
When you sat her down on a bench in the grand gathering room, you stood and wiped your face, smearing the dirt and dust deeper into your skin. You couldn’t find it in your mind to care what you looked like. You reckoned you looked as poorly as the rest of the survivors bustling about around you.
You closed your eyes and sucked in a deep, steadying breath. You had to go out and help bring more people in, there were still so many out there, spread around the castle with little or no help around. So you slowly put one foot in front of the other and made your way toward the oversized doors.
But any intention you had of leaving the room collapsed along with your own body. Your knees hit the ground with a numbing force and your scream echoed in the hall, bouncing off of the stone walls and up into the vast space above you. You felt a warm tear trickle down your face as you stared in silent shock at what you saw before you.
You had told him no. You desperately begged him to stay away, to stay safe. And for what? For him to defy your request and enter the battlefield anyway. If you hadn’t first seen him with clear vision, you might have hoped that it was your tear-filled eyes lying to you about who lay still and lifeless on the ground just a foot away from you.
“Colin, no-” your shaky voice breathed out as you clenched your fists and squeezed your eyes shut, blocking out the reality around you.
In that moment, life flashed by you in snapshots, much like the ones your sweet friend would capture each day, no matter how inconveniently timed they may have been. You realized that those photos would eventually be your sole memory of the face that once shined so brightly with the eagerness of a child and the courage of the most weathered veteran.
But now, his face lay ashen and cold upon the blanket stretched beneath him. His camera was nowhere near, but he had captured the brutality of the fight within himself. But you spotted something caught in his hand and you reached out to take it, the contact with his cold hands enough to evoke a fresh round of tears.
You retrieved the item he had gripped so tightly that not even the life being knocked from him could release his hold. Opening your hand, you held a small pocket watch. The very watch you had gifted to him during your second year of mentoring.
“What is it??” The young boy looked as though this was the greatest day of his life. Really, you had just wanted to offer him a small holiday present as a token of your appreciation for how hard he had worked over the past year and a half.
He impatiently tore through the meager wrappings and held up a shiny new pocket watch, the sun shining into the courtyard reflected brightly off of the glass surface. “It’s a watch!” You laughed at his observant nature.
“Yes it is, this is so you can quit being late to everything. So you’ll always know the time. So every photo you take can be marked with a timestamp. You’ll always know the hour, no matter what.”
He held it tight to his chest before throwing his arms around you in an appreciative hug. Even if it was meant to tease him for his tendency to run late or forget about things. You had seen the small item in a shop and just knew who it needed to belong to.
And now, this hour would forever belong to Colin, too.
