Who else was loving the Coulson-Simmons bonding in this episode? He brought her into the spy game way back in Season 1, and now she’s introducing a new him to their world again. Like just how much she quietly indulged him in his total excitement! Only cutting him off when absolutely necessary. Oh, you think it’s cool that you’re meeting “the Patriot”? Pfft, you are the one HE answers to in our world. You think this little quinjet is cool? Pfft, your plane is bigger and so much better! I’ll just sit here and listen to you talk about all the cool features of your robotic hand that Daisy told you about, but my boyfriend built for you. Oh, you believe Hydra is using mind controlling soap? Umm, okay, not the weirdest thing we’ve had to deal with though… Just trust me, you are awesome. And how, after one day, ONE DAY, knowing they have a history he doesn’t even remember, he follows her completely. He backs her play for how things should go over his secret idol, and over a clearly deadly, experienced spy. He steps out into the open during a fire fight relying on muscle memory to fire back and protect her. Without fully knowing her, he can read the devastation on her face over what they witnessed. He deflects and acts as her shield giving her time to process at the base, after PHYSICALLY shielding her from a spray of bullets aimed their way. The Coulson-Simmons relationship is one of the most understated and beautiful relationships in this show. (Which is freaking saying something!) It’s never thrown in your face, or continually highlighted, like Coulson-Skye/Daisy or May-Skye/Daisy or even Skye/Daisy-FitzSimmons. The Coulson-Simmons relationship is in quiet glances over four seasons. And man do I LOVE that it’s still all here in the subtlety. Anyone agree?
