New Season Finally Here! Senior Girls Football has begun
This is my first action reflection for the year! I am kind of off-schedule because I was meant to start recording my reflections for a long time now but I was constantly putting it off. Anyways, I just wanted to start of by saying that I am really serious about football this year. For the first time in a long time, the athletics department has organized multiple leagues and it's not only focused on the ISSEA tournament. Much of athletics over the years has been so focused on ISSEA! When I was in middle school there were multiple leagues (e.g U15, U18) and a special squad for ISSEA.
However, this system sort of disappeared and much of the last 2 years has basically been that if you are not good enough for the 2 weeks of tryouts, you are basically off the team. This was really ineffective because it was impossible to keep practicing and develop your skills if you were cut. Also, it was very impractical because you would have the seniors graduate and no one would be left to compete in the ISSEA tournament as the ISSEA team was usually composed of seniors. After graduation, you would just have 2-3 people left and coaches then have to start looking for new people, who aren't as skilled as they haven't been given the chance to develop their skills! This year however, it very different :) I really enjoy football practice as a) the new coach (Mr. Kovac) is superb! b) Mr. Kovac has decided not to cut anyone this year as he really wants to develop everybody's skills.
In terms of practice, it is very intense and I am learning so many new skills! My goal for this activity is mainly to develop new skills! I would like to improve my attacking skills (i.e dribbling, passing, footwork/tricks) and also better my defensive skills. I will go into more detail of what we do in practice after next weeks practice as this is my first reflection and I wanted to touch base on my overall goals and general feeling about this activity.
