tumler doesnt tell me anything anymore - yeah, i immediately got the vibe of 'timeline guardian' during my fights with him. however his powers arent at the level of chara or even flowey as flowey says he is dominant with save-load until frisk/chara comes along. it seems like his powers are stolen or 'artificial'. i have to wonder if sans injected himself with moderate DT before alphys even had any, if he had DT initially, or if his machine in the workshop/gaster has something to do with it?

I think it definitely has something to do with the workshop.

The trick is that, from what I can gather from his dialog, Sans is working off an entirely different mechanic than Determination. He can’t SAVE and reset, and he can’t remember previous runs any better than Toriel or Papyrus can. However, he has powers that Flowey and the player don’t, namely to jump around in time and space.

My best guess is that his power is basically “localized” or “secondary” in terms of its effects. He can time travel and look into the future and talk to alternate Sanses and such all he likes within one timeline, but the instant a Reset hits, that’s all undone. Still, without an explicit explanation of the matter, it’s as enigmatic as everything else about him, imo…

(There is, of course, the further complication that he is able to keep a memento from the True Ending - depending on whether you choose to stay with Toriel or not, visiting his lab after a True Reset shows a photo of you and the others alongside the photo of “sans and a bunch of others you don’t know about.” Was it given to him by another Sans, perhaps, or?..)

i assume the other photo is gaster, alphys, and anybody else on the science team with sans - the people who did the determination tests with alphys according to true lab entry 17 and who figured out genocider chara was gonna wipe the timeline permanently. thoughts?

quite possible, although it’d be strange not to mention alphys among the “people you don’t know.” maybe she looked rly different when she was younger though lmao

I think the badge definitely factors into it, too, though... maybe sans is some kind of time cop???
