Just Cause, Chapter 18: The Only Two I Thought I Had
The 18th chapter of my Undertale fanfic, Just Cause, is out, and Frisk is about to learn a few things about their friends that they'll wish they didn't know. Read it on my website. Read it on AO3.
Frisk has a LOT of insecurities, and that fight and its aftermath touched on far too many of them, like fingers in an open wound. They desperately need a grownup who will love them and refuse to hurt them unconditionally, but in a place like this, those are in short supply. But hey, there's no situation so bad that a talking flower can't make it worse!

Toriel may dislike violence, but she is very good at it. Her attack patterns are hard to dodge, and if she wasn't treating her opponent with kid gloves, she'd probably finish them with frightening speed.
As it is, the longer she drags this out, the closer she comes to bringing herself and Frisk to an outcome they'll both regret.

When I first got to this part of the game, the first thing that flashed through my mind was the words, "Holy shit. She's about to go full yandere on me.”
The original script actually had Frisk say that, but then I realized they probably wouldn't be familiar with the term "yandere", and it felt a bit out of character.
