MSPs will be asked to vote this week on whether the Scottish Government should pursue an Unexplained Wealth Order (UWO) to investigate the source of financing for Donald Trump’s Scottish resorts.
The Scottish Parliament will vote this week on launching a full investigation into Donald Trump’s finances and properties.
The Scotsman reported, “An opposition debate in the Scottish Parliament will set out the arguments for ministers to apply to the Court of Session and act on growing concerns over how the former US president’s holdings in Scotland were acquired. While the issue has been discussed three times at Holyrood in the past 12 months, the coming debate is significant. A vote by MSPs calling on ministers to seek an UWO would not be binding, but it would substantially increase pressure on First Minister Nicola Sturgeon to act in line with Holyrood’s will.”

THE FIRST Minister has been urged to use her powers to hold the soon-to-be former US president, Donald Trump, to account over investments in Scotland.
The Scottish Greens have launched a campaign to put pressure on the Scottish Government to seek an unexplained wealth order (UWO) on Trump International’s acquisition of Turnberry.
Speaking in Holyrood yesterday, Nicola Sturgeon said a probe like this would need to be initiated by the Crown Office – though the Greens dispute that claim.
The party says the recent publication of Trump’s tax records in the US raises serious questions about his spending in Scotland.
Those records, obtained by the New York Times, revealed that Trump paid just $750 in federal income taxes in 2016.

If Turnberry made any profits at all it will have been the US government’s payments for US officials who where told to stay there on return journeys to the US even though the stopovers were unnecessary.
The Scottish Government has been urged to apply for an unexplained wealth order to investigate Donald Trump’s deals to acquire his Scottish properties.
Patrick Harvie MSP, co-leader of the Scottish Greens, said there were reasonable grounds for suspecting that the US president, or people he is connected with, “have been involved in serious crime.”
He has called on ministers to apply to the Court of Session to seek answers as to how Mr Trump’s bankrolled his multimillion acquisitions of land and property in his mother’s homeland.
Responding at First Minister’s Questions, Nicola Sturgeon stressed she was “no defender” of Mr Trump, but said any allegations of criminality were a matter for Police Scotland and the Crown Office.
An UWO is a relatively new - and rarely used - power which has been designed to target suspected corrupt foreign officials who have potentially laundered stolen money through the UK.
